8 Nights at the MGM
Date: 06/20/07
Player: OttawaPoker
For Rooms: MGM Grand,

Summary: Folded trips when both my opponets also held trips

Content: I was playing a 1-2 NL with a $200 max buy-in. I was in mid position with 2 2. I had about $350. I called. Late position player made it $8, there were 3 callers, and I was last to act, and I called also. Flop comes 10 9 2 with 2 diamonds. The small blind (who had $340) bets $40. I raise to $100, and the preflop raiser goes all-in for $200 without much hesitation. The small blind calls, and the action is on me. There is currently $472 in the pot. I have 4.7 to 1 odds on a call. I start to think. The all-in tells me that I am dominated, and should fold my hand. The small blind has $140 left. The all-in guy calls the clock on me. With about 20 seconds left, I fold my trips. Small blind has 9 9, and the all-in guy has 10 10. The turn and river don't help, and the all-in guy wins $470. When the hands were shown, I told the table that I folded bottom set. The other players put me on a diamond draw. If I was on a draw, I would have called! It was tough to convince the other players that I also had trips. Imagine that..... telling the truth at a poker table!
Even though in my previous MGM posts, I am not impressed with the staff and management in the poker room..... it is still a great place to play..... there are always games going, and the competition is generally not as tough as other rooms.
