Tournament-hopping for 2 + days
Date: 03/15/07
Player: mheid
For Rooms: Caesars Palace,Excalibur,Luxor,Mandalay Bay,MGM Grand,Monte Carlo,Plaza,Sunset Station,

Summary: I went out to Vegas March 8, for a 4 day trip, while my girlfriend came out the night of the 9th, so I had the great opportunity to play as much poker as I could for a day and a half. I enjoy playing in tournaments more than cash games, so here are my experiences.

Content: I arrived at the MGM at 11 am, but it was too early to check in, so I headed over to the Luxor for the noon tournament. This tournament is only $33 for a buy in and you only get 600 in chips with a starting 25/25 structure, but I like it because it is quick. Buted out 30 min in, then over to Paris' 1:30 tournament.

For those of you who remember Paris' poker room in the middle of the casino, that has changed. It is now next to the sports book, behind an enclosed bar. In fact, they moved it 30 min before I got there, so I got to play in the 1st tournament in its new location. Busted out a little after the 1st break, so I headed back to check in, see the pool, and resumed play after dinner.

That evening I played at the 6 pm Mandalay Bay tournament, as well as Luxor's 8:30, and 2 sit n go's at MGM before calling it a nite. I finished 3rd in the sit n go, with my Ad-4d beat by pocket Jacks in an "all in."

The next day began much better, as I played in Excaliburs 9 am tournament, where I finished 3rd out of 50 people (got knocked out by runner runner 2 pair to my overpair.) I played in the Luxor noon tourney, where I finished 12th out of abt 40 people.

That evening, I played at Paris again (knocked out 1/2 way thru) and played at Monte Carlo's 6pm tournament (finished 4th out of 35.) This room is small but I really like it. Feels like someones private den, or library, in a multimillion dollar older house. I played one more sit n go at MGM, then I met my girlfriend later in the evening as her flight arrived.

The final 2 days, only played in 2 tournaments (Paris, and the Luxor, where my AKs was beat by 5h-8h. I have no luck in this casino.) I played some cash games at MGM, one at Caesars (this room is beautiful. Has its own tournament room!) and even took a side trip to Sunset Station, to play with the "locals." The Station casinos are a little out of the way, but they are very nice, and laid back.

In recap, I played in 13 tournaments, finished in the money in 2 (2 others knocked out 1 place from the money.) MGM and Caesars were my favorite rooms, but I enjoyed playing in each & every room.
