Super Bowl Weekend in Vegas
Date: 02/05/07
Player: LD Lotty
For Rooms: Caesars Palace,Green Valley Ranch,MGM Grand,

Summary: Good action and bad beats at MGM, plus a monster pot at the adjoining table.

Content: Arrived in Vegas on the Saturday of Super Bowl Weekend. 1 hour of play at Green Valley Ranch while wife and daughter shopped. Nice room, plenty of action.

Sunday morning at MGM at 1-2 NL table. Lots of action. Ran my $200 buyin up to $460, then the following hand: I had A-4 of hearts on the button. A couple of limpers then a raise from mid-position to $10. I decided to call and see a flop. Raiser and me. Flop comes 9-4-4, giving me a set with top kicker. Raiser leads out with a $10 continuation bet, I raise to $20, he calls. Turn is a J, raiser leads out and bets $75. I move all in and instantly get called. He had pocket 9's and flopped the boat. I lose $320. Ouch!

Sunday afternoon at Caesars Palace for a few hours before Super Bowl kickoff. Immediate seating at 2-5 NL. I raised to $15 from late position with pocket 6's. Got two callers. Flopped the set and picked up $100 from guy with a K that flopped top pair. Cold decked for remaining 2 hours and blinded off basically $75 of that win. Super Bowl started and the roars from the Sports Book (right outside poker room)were deafening on almost every plan. That was fun.

Sunday night, back to MGM, where I sat back down in the 1-2 NL game. Cold decked, or 2nd best or not being able to run people off. Example: I had pocket 8's on the button. Six limpers, so I raise to $10. One caller. Flop comes 2-5-7. Caller checks, I bet $15, he calls. Turn is 3, he checks, I bet $30, he calls. River is A, he checks, I check. He had A-9, rivered me. Said he had 2 overcards, that is why he kept calling me. Yikes. What does it take to keep people from chasing?

While at MGM, noticed huge commotion at adjoining table (NL, but not sure of blinds). In a matter of seconds, there must have been 40 people standing around this table. We all jumped up to see what was happening. Don't know what happened pre-flop, but there was over $4,000 in the pot already (3 players). Flop came J-10-3. First guy moved all in for $2,400 (this is when I arrived at table). Second guy went in the tank for a full 15 minutes before finally folding. Third guy thought for 5 minutes, then called the all-in. First guy had J-10 for top two pair. Caller had A-J for top pair with top kicker. Turn was a 2. River brought the A and the place erupted. The first guy was sick and let out a guttural "NO!!, How can you make that call?"

Good trip, will be back in May with a bunch of golf buddies to play hours and hours of poker. Good luck on your next trip!
