7 Tournies and some Laughable fixed low-limit
Date: 02/04/07
Player: blnewt
For Rooms: Fiesta Henderson,Palms,Sahara,Silverton,Tuscany,

Summary: I keep vowing to never play low fixed limit poker, I'm keeping that vow next trip, lol.
Had a fun time playing several low buy-in MTTs though.

Content: Stayed at Silverton from last Sunday night through Friday morning. Silverton room is so small that it can't spread enough games to keep the room busy and still maintain the two daily tournies it runs (9AM & 6PM).

Played the Sunday night Sahara $62 T5000 chip tourney at 7PM, decent tourney structure for the buy-in, and had about 90-95 players. Blinds were at 500/1000, dealt AK(hearts) from UTG, made a 5k bet (my stack was 25.5K and was folded around to the SB who called (had about 30K), BB folded. Flop comes A7h3h, I make another 5k bet and am reraised all-in. The sb was a loose player that hadn't shown down in awhile and this was my best chance to double up since he was the big stack at the table. I insta-called and he throws down A8 off, and of course an 8 pops on the turn and no hearts or K rivers and I'm busted and a bit PO'd. I felt good about my play and my read on the sb (the rest of the table shared my disgust w/ the sbs' play, so that felt pretty good~as I took the walk of shame). $-62 day one

Monday morning try the Silverton 9AM tourney, it's $42 and you get T2000. Only 9 show up so it's now a sit-n-go that'll pay top 2. I play decent poker for the first hour and the blinds go up every 20 minutes so it's push time after the break. I'm second in chips w/ 4 players left, I get K6 in the BB and just check my option after the UTG player (and chipleader) limps in and the SB folds. UTG was a strange guy, acted like a complete noob w/ his bets and behaviour but myself & another fellow seemed to think it was all a show. He played alot of hands and would show good hands voluntarily but at showdown he was playing alot of junk. The flop comes KJ7(rainbow), I check, he bets the BB (it was 1K), I just knew he was making a move so I re-raised to 3k (about 1/2 my stack), he came back over and put me all-in. After a bit of time I called and he flips J3, and as my luck would have it, a 3 rivers and I'm again getting railed for making the right read. Oh well, at least I'm going in w/ the best of it and at that point in the game you've got to trust your reads since time (and the blinds) will eat you up. One of the other guys at the table mentions that Tuscany has a fun room w/ decent low buy-in tournies so I give that a shot.
I played the Monday night Tuscany tourney at 7PM, it's a $22 buy-in (T1000) and a $10 add-on that gets another T1000, if your stack gets less than 1000 you can rebuy the first hour for $10. Had about 60 players and had a fun time, nice dealers and a well-run room. One dealer named Dan is one of the best dealers I've seen, no mis-deals, lightning-quick, and can cut-up a side pot faster than PartyPoker, lol. The players were mainly locals w/ about 20%tourists. I made the final table where they paid the top 4 and agreed to a chop to give the other 6 players $50 (this is something the Tuscany offers every night to the final players). I finish blinded out in 6th and get $50.
$-42 Silverton +18 Tuscany=$-24 Day2
Tues. afternoon,Played some Palms 4/8 and it was just a silly river-chasin' chip-splashin game, didn't catch any real hands but able to make up most of my blinds and previous river-rat suckouts when I flop the nutflush and the board didn't pair to a guy who flopped a set. End the 3 hour session $-10
Tues night try the Tuscany tourney again, did pretty well for the sorry cards I was catching but railed in 12th spot.
$-10 Palms $-32 Tuscany=$-42 Day3
Wed Tuscany again, finish 6th for another $50 chop, then play 3/6 for a $40 win over a 2 hour game. Tuscany 3/6 was actually much better poker than the Palms 4/8.
$+58 day 4 WOO-HOO, lol
Thursday last try at Tuscany, finish around 16th on some cold cards, but stretched em' out pretty well. Total prize pool was a new record for this Tourney at around $3500, pretty good for such a low buy-in.
$-32 day5
We were planning on leaving town Fri morning, on the way out we wanted a quick breakfast buffet and the Fiesta Henderson was on the way out of town so we stopped by there. On the way to the buffet I noticed the poker room on the second floor. It's a nice looking room w/ good tables and pretty spacious for the # of tables they had. They had a noon tourney about to start as we were finishing our breakfast/lunch and my wife wanted to give the casino some play so we booked a room for Fri night and I played the tourney. The tourney was $50 (T2000) w/ NO rebuys. Two tables signed up and I finished second. It's a very fast structure w/ 20 minute levels first hour then 15 minute levels from then on. It's a fun turbo tournie, so a nice choice if you've got time constraints. I finished 2nd in this one and when we were heads-up we agreed to chop w/ the winner getting a $50 bonus. Later that night I dropped $60 in a silly 2/4 white-water river run, lol.
$+220 tourney$-60limit=$+160 day6
+ 58 bucks for the week (about 2 dollars an hour, lol)

All in all a fun week, and BTW, the reason we played all the local places is my wife does so well w/ her slot play (compared to the strip casinos) and they comp her nicely, so I don't mind sacrificing some of the glitz
But I AM playing the noon Caesars next trip!
