Poker Run, wife attending convention
Date: 02/03/07
Player: Pantl3ss
For Rooms: Excalibur (Live),Harrah's,MGM Grand,Palms,Rio,Riviera,

Summary: My wife was attending a convention at the Rio, so hey, I came along to work on my poker skills.I only had a few hours a day to play, so I hit a few of the rooms I thought I had a change in.

Content: We stayed at the Rio, as for the hotel, it was only OK, nothing too great, not horrible. Their show Masquerade in the Sky is the worst thing I have seen, don't go out of your way to see it...the hotel is too far away from it all, felt like the bastard child of casinos. I would not stay here again unless comped...

Now as for my poker run... I only played the 1/2 or 2/4 tables...

I first stopped into the Palms and played for a few hours. Its a small room, and had two tables running. All was fine, but I was really nervous for some reason. Cocktail servers where thru the room every 2 minutes it seemed, never drank - but should have to calm down a bit. Many of the players knew the dealers and vice-versa. Lost 50.00.

The second room was MGM. Wow, what a room if you love technology. It was visually stunning, a really wild lay out/design. They had lots of tables running and seemed to be well organized. Room is just off the casino floor and near the Lion Habitat. This should have been a hint for me as I was eaten alive in that room! Lost $100.00. I had my up's and down's but still lost...

The next day I started at the Excalibur. This is a fine area to play... nothing to wild or crazy...just a poker area, even though it is in the middle of the casino. Players and dealers were friendly, cocktail service was quick. I won $208.00.up in this room over 5 hours and got my $4 comp. Had a 'bad beat', my pocket AA lost to something...and I got to spin the wheel, landed $35 bucks!

Next room was Paris, not really a room, more of an area by the bar. The wait was an hour, so I moved on to Ballys. Again, the wait there was an hour and I did not want to play 3/6 tables, so I kept walking. Ended at Harrah's were I quickly doubled up at the 1/2 No Limit game. I felt great, (even after walking 3 miles to get to a room without a wait). Had a few drinks, talked it up with the table and before I knew it, I went all in on my pocket kings. He had pocket 10's, and before I knew it, his 10s became a set and my kings were busted! Time to catch the bus back to the Rio...

My last day I ended up at the Riviera. The table was tight, old and grumpy...the average age of each player had to be about 65 years old. So I was the kid at the table. The cocktail servers were non-existent until one old dude got up and made a scene! After he complained, we had service for the rest of the day. One lady landed quad 8's, and with the bonus system there, she won the had (daaa) and something like $325.00 on the bonus.
There was a major dealer issue, long story short, a player accidentally saw another players card and announced that he saw a card...after lots of discussion, it was a re-deal, but the boss had to come over and calm some players down. Kinda of ugly. I won $52.00.

My last stop of the trip was at the Rio.... glad I only played here once as the players are very good and I quickly went broke. Lost $100.00. These players knew what they were doing and hands down, were good. I should not have even sat down.

Will be off to Atlantic City in a few months...we will see what that brings...

Good Luck!
