MGM Grand 1/2 and tourneys, Hooters 1/2
Date: 01/27/07
Player: armyfirerescue
For Rooms: Hooters,MGM Grand,

Summary: Tight play at MGM Grand and Hooters cash games, tourneys will give you the best time if you don't have thousands to spend.

Content: Stayed at the MGM Grand, very nice newly renovated rooms in the west wing. First night, I sat down at a cash game with just $60 to get my feet wet. I didn't catch a thing, I think I took one hand on a bluff. It was very hard to play with the guys who plink down $200 as soon as they sit, especially when you don't catch anything better than a pair of 10's all night.

The next night, I wandered over to Hooters to try one of their cash games. Waited about 30 minutes for a seat, as they only had 1 table going. The other reviews of Hooters are right on par. It felt like I was playing a game at home, the dealer was pleasant, and all the players talked the whole game. At least a couple locals at the table, and again I was short stacked against people with $500 in chips. Bad luck from the previous night followed me to Hooters, and I only played there for an hour or so before busting out.

I was hoping my luck would change the next morning, when I played in the 10am $65 tourney at MGM. The poker room is very nice, and doesn't feel cramped even with a full house for the tournament. Drink service was very prompt, the waitresses were coming around about 10 minutes prior to the tourney starting, and you had your drink in another 5. I had a run of good luck, and wound up finishing 12th out of 116 people. Too bad only 9 places paid, so I was out of the money. I played until 1:30pm...so I think that $65 for 3 1/2 hours of entertainment and drinks isn't bad at all.

I was planning on attending a tournament that night at the Luxor, but decided to play in the next morning tournament at the MGM instead. I felt like with my good finish that day, I was primed to be in the money next time. I was wrong...I lost in the first round going all in with an ace high flush...to quad 10's. It was a brutal way to end my stay in Vegas, but I did enjoy myself overall.
