Tourneys at Bellagio, Cesars and Orleans
Date: 11/28/06
Player: timetogonow
For Rooms: Bellagio,Binion's,Caesars Palace,Orleans,Venetian,Wynn,
Summary: Played Four Tourneys while in Vegas before Thanksgiving. Cashed Once at the Bellagio daily $540.
Content: Arrived in Vegas on Sat. the 18th and stayed at the South Point- nice new place(also got free suite upgrade), which my wife loved. Nice and clean, small poker room with a 10 am daily tourney. Moved to Orleans for the rest of my stay on Sunday as they gave us $25 rooms. Can't beat this place as it has nice rooms, good foods, and lots of poker. I don't play much ring poker, mostly just tourneys.
I have been to Vegas many times and usually only play Tourneys. The Orleans has two a day (OK structure)and usually always over 100 players in the evening tourney (7pm) so nice prize money for the $100 avg fee. On last trip to vegas I chopped the rebuy NL evening tourney with 3 others and took home about $2200.
I have built my bankroll up considerably over the past year and decided to move up for this trip. Planned to play Sunday in the Binions Ultimate Poker Challenge ($340 buy-in)and went played in an $80 STT sat. and didn't do any good. After reading the media release they make you sign, I decided to pass and went back and played in the Orleans Tourney where I miss played my pocket jacks against AQ and made an early exit.
On Monday I decided to played the 2pm Bellagio $540 Tourney. Played a STT sat for $130 and won a seat. I was extremely card dead early in the Sat, and didn't play a hand for the first two rounds. Then things started happening for me and in about 30 minutes I was the mega stack and cruised my way into the seat. I play many STT in Vegas for larger Tourneys and WSOP and can tell you if you are an above average player (and know when to switch gears)they are an extremely good value (MANY bad players). Overall I would say that I have paid less than 40 cents on the dollar for Tourney buy ins by playing the STT sats. When tourney started I was again extremely card dead and didn't play a hand for the first 80 minutes. Then doubled up twice and was playing well when the following hand happened. I was middle position with Ad Kd and came in for a 3XBB raise. The player to my left called and a player in late position put the squeeze on and re-raised me a hefty sum. I had observed this guy do this twice before and suspected that he thought I would lay down a very good hand as I had been playing very tight. After observing him for about one minute my read was that he was doing just what I initially suspected. I went all in and knew immediately he didn't want to call even with about 4 to 1 pot odds. He flipped over AJ and man was I happy untill the flop came 2J2 (one d), Turn was a 2nd diamond giving me the nut flush draw, and the river brought a dia, however it was the Jack and he had a FH and I was out. But I felt good about the hand. The player who busted me made the final table.
On Tuesday, I played another STT Sat at Bellagio and got knocked out so I went next door and played the Ceasars noon Tourney ($80 + 50RB) and was doing good until my aces got cracked.
On Wednesday, I won another seat in the Bellagio $540 through a STT sat (two tries)and was finally playing very well. The Tourneys at the bellagio have about 30% full time pro players and Scott Fischman and Thor Hansen played in this one. I sat next to Hansen until his aces got cracked-- what a pleasant guy. After six hours I made it to the final table and ending up taking 8th for $765. The level of play in this tourney was very high and was a lot of fun, especially when we got down to 16 players and below. I played for about four hours with an older pro guy I've seen on TV on the PPT (don't know his name though). He played extremely well and was very willing to lay down a big hand when he feels he is beat (my biggest problem). After making the money I decided I was playing for first (12K) and became very selective/aggressive. I was in the LB with A9os and everyone folded around to the button who limped ( a very weak move in this game). I called the BB and the BB checked. The flopped came A77(two h)and I liked it very much, given no pre-flop raises. I checked the BB checked and the button made a min. bet. At that time I knew I had the Button beat and unless the BB got lucky and had a seven, I was the favorite. With the two hearts I wanted the draws out, so went all in and the BB with his 75os and had me dominated. The button folded. So I made the right read, but got unlucky. Oh well. had a great time and came home about $30 down.
If you want to play good poker tourneys the best structures in Vegas can be found at Bellagio $540(3000T, 40 min blinds), Wynn ($340 and $540)Venetian, and Ceasars. The Orleans and Binions are ok, but most of the other tourneys in Vegas are pretty much gimics with very short rounds..
