Trip Report Forget Caesar's Tournies! Play at Wynn and Venetian Date: 11/21/06 Player: Royal_Bust For Rooms: Caesars Palace,Venetian,Wynn, Summary: Two final table appearances and cashed in one tournament. Content: I went to Vegas 11/15-11/18 to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Yes, I am a girl. We stayed at the Wynn and took advantage of the Poker Room Rate and stayed for $129.00 a night. The Wynn was great. I recommend everyone take advantage of the poker room rate. Wynn is a quiet room that draws a lot of players with management that is friendly and treats players extremely well. Not only did I get the poker room rate but I was able to get 2 food comps as well using my red players card. They even allow you to earn points while playing in a tournament which is not something other rooms allow. I'm a better tournament player than cash game player so I decided to play a couple of tournaments this trip. I love Wynn's $330 noon tournament. 45 minute blinds, no rebuys, great starting amount, very even and consistent levels with no huge jumps in blinds....the complete opposite of Caesar's tournies that brag about their starting amount and 40 minute blinds but then screw you by not raising the blind increments in even amounts making it an all in fest because of the way they triple or quadruple the blinds instead of doubling them and making you ante in the 3rd level. The Wynn Tournament is the kind of tournament that rewards patient poker and draws better players. There were about 44 participants only one woman (me) and they paid the top 5. I made it to the final table then went card dead but managed to get 5th and won $597.00. The next day I played in the Venetian's Friday noon tournament for $120.00 + $5.00 dealer add on and one rebuy for $50.00. I'm usually not a fan of rebuys but this was a good tournament. I hate Caesar's rebuy tournaments because they actually give you more chips for rebuying than they give you when you buy in so it encourages a lot of stupid play so people can rebuy. The Venetian's rebuy tournament was more of an add on in my mind and you didn't have to bust out to "rebuy" The Venetian is a beautiful room albeit a little noisy since it's right off the entrance to the casino with a lot of people going past. Still, I really liked the atmosphere in this room and was extremely impressed with the level of service. The cocktail service was the best in Vegas and Tiffany came by every 5 or 10 minutes with drinks. They also had the largest variety of drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) of any poker room I've played. The food service was also the best I've seen. Going back to the tournament...The blinds increase steadily with no big unexpected jumps (unlike Caesar's) every 30 minutes. This allows for steady poker without it becoming a crapshoot all in fest. I quadrupled up early on then went card dead after the break and deck change. I was the only woman to make it to the final table but busted out in 8th place when my pair ran into an overpair. There were only 51 players and they were paying the top 5 so I didn't make it into the money. Still, I would play this tournament again as I feel it's a good value for a lower buy in tournament. Overall, a great trip and I would definitely stay and play at the Wynn again and would also play at the V. |
