Rookie Mistake (I Guess)

Las Vegas Trip Report

As I sit down, for what I consider to be a high stake game at the 2-5 NL table in Wynn. I notice that not only is my $500 buy-in not that much. I also see several thousand in cash infront of 3 or 4 other players. This should have been a sign.
Let me first describe myself as a poker player. I would be you above average home game player. Every group has one, two or three of these types. I bully when in position or sense weakness and never talk trash. I muck marginal hand and battle with low pocket pairs. I usually wait for the trash talkers to make their mistakes - they almost always do. Then I snap one off, as if to explain that that will only be tolerated for a little while.
BACK to VEGAS.
I play fairly tight for the first 2 hours. I get my stack up to $800+. There is some sloppy play that can be recognized and therr is some flat-out grinders. All that being said. I get into a hand that start with me on the button (9 players), position 1. 4-8 Fold Seat 9 raises $15. I look down at Kh10h. I re-raise $50 total. Small folds Big and 9 call. Flop comes Ac10s5c. Big checks, 9 bets $25. I figure betting his Ace. What confused me was $25 into a $150 pot. Even is I wasn't on a nut draw for the money I had to call or make a play. I reraise $50 again. Big folds and seat 9 calls. Turn comes Qh. Seat 9 checks. I make a stab at it. $75. Seat 9 calls. I am completely lost. What is this guy calling for with only top pair. There is a flush draw and a straight draw showing. Unless he thnks he's got me beat. Which he does. Last card. 9c. He bet's $50. No way was he calling down the draw. He wasn't getting the right money for it. I called raise. With one hand I slide out 1 stack of red ($100) and went back to get 3 more stacks to put him more than all in. My plan was to make him go all in to see if I hit the suck out flush. The dealer stoped me and said that was my bet. I could not go back and add more chips unless I staighted th raise amount. I moved the stack in as I said raise and hadn't even had a chance to state how much the raise was going to me for, when he stoped me. He called and only had the As7s. No way he calls $400 raise with top pair. Oh well lesson learned.
I will be back in December for another round of " What works at home - Don't work here. "
