Had a 5 day break, so I went to visit my family that just moved to Henderson. Also, I just turned 21 this past August, so it was my first time I could legally play inside a casino instead of the online poker sites I have been grinding for 3 years!
On Friday I played at my dad's work, a local casino called Fiesta Henderson. They didn't have anyone playing 1/2 NL so I played 2/4 Fixed limit. I broke even but I just don't think it's worth the grind at 2/4 plus forget about beating the rake.
This past Saturday, I stayed over at the Monte Carlo. Their rooms were very spacious and I had a great view of the whole strip. I took my first try at 1/2 NL in a casino, and bought in with a 100 (the only money I had for the weekend).
Early on, I lost a big hand w/ AK and dropped down to 60 dollars. From there on, I played exceptional poker and caught the right hands. After 5-6 hours I was up 400. The poker room itself is nice and located at a corner where most sounds from the casino cannot be heard. The players were pretty careless, aggressive, and drunk. I was called down by Ace High with pot sized bets on the flop turn AND river.
Flaming: The next day I decided to try my luck at the Flamingo, 1/2 nl. I made another 150 here. My only problem was the Air conditioner! It was blowing crazily and the room was very cold. Got even more drunk players, who contributed to another person at the table who, when I left, had over 1600 at a 1/2 NL table!
Paris: Today was my last day to play poker, so I headed out to Paris and found another 1/2 NL game. I made another 60 before I left to play Paris' tournament which runs every 2 hours. The Buy-in was 50+15, and paid 3 places based on two tables. A few decent players mixed in with most of the fishies. I ended up chopping for 1st with one other guy for 300+ dollars. I loved the structure which can be found on this site.
Paris' poker cash games were the loosest I've played at. Two guys went all in preflop with AJ and AK for over 120 each at the 1/2 nl table.
I loved the place and enjoyed my trip. I'm up in money when I didn't expect to win as much. This extra money is a big bonus for me.
Note: At the Bellagio, I saw Barry Greenstein as well as Liz Lieu!!!!! That was exciting.
Overall: A++++ trip!
