MGM, Caesars Palace, Luxor Info
Date: 10/04/06
Player: coco7
For Rooms: Caesars Palace,Luxor,MGM Grand,

Summary: Plenty of fun and one pro player sighting.

Content: Started trip Friday nite playing some limit at MGM. Room was nicely run and no wait since room seemed slow. Basically as advertised. Then played 6pm tourney which is a nice structure as far as starting chips and time for each round. Highlight of the tournament was sitting at same table as Clonie Gowan. She was very friendly and had a great smile. Oh yeah, she was a pretty good athelete and former Miss Teen Oklahoma, so pretty easy on the eyes too. Didn't see any great action while she was on table.

The worst moment was about 20 minutes before the tournamant the computer crashed. The focus was all on the computer and I thought an angry mob was going to form. Even though they started a name list since they didn't know how many seats were left, the communication to management of the crowd of people was poor. As people were trying to get in area for tournament, MGM staff member ask people not in tournament to form a line along rail. Confusing since there was already a list (and they did go by list). They did try to start on time and added an extra table to let as many people in as possible. Once going, the tournament was well run.

Tried the 11pm tournament at Caesars after the MGM tournament as well as noon tournament the next day. The late tourney is only 2000 chips and we had about 40 players. Only hand for this report is when tables combined to two tables with 16 players. Maniac tring to leave goes all in with 4300 chips with 6-7 of hearts and gets called by JJ. He hits flush. Next hand he goes all in again (he wants to go to Bellagio for WPT satellite) and I look at KK. He had 9600 chips and I had over 12000, and unless I had AA or KK didn't feel like I needed to tangle with other chip leader. So he has Q-J of diamonds and flops is 8-6-4 rainbow, and turn is 2nd diamond. Any guess on river? Yup, diamond. But I fought back and got in money, but thought of having 25% of chips in play would have been really nice.

Noon tourney may have been best play I've seen in a tourney. Lots of good players and good play. Definitely a step up for those playing more entry level tourneys. Got too aggressive and busted early, but easily won buy-in back in ring game.

The two friends I went to Vegas with agreed that the room was really nice. But even better was how well the room was run. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful, drinks were timely and they even brought around food menus occasionally. Love the feel of the room for both tournament play and ring games.

Lastly, since we stayed at Luxor we played some there. Main thing is they have a couple nice promotions for those who don't know about them. First is 15 hours of play during week (excluding tourneys and 1-2 limit game) qualifies for a free roll, which is never played (is always chopped for about $80). Other promotion is Monday from 4-8pm and Tuesday from 5-9am they pay out a bonus for the 4 high hands ($500-300-200-100). So you can have a lot of fun and play cheap at 1-2 limit or 2-4 limit in an attempt to catch a big hand. The early morning game only has 2-3 tables so odds are better of winning. Monday nite 2 straight flushes and 2 quads paid, although aces full can pay sometimes. Tues morning 2 quads and 2 kings full paid.

Good luck at the tables.
