Hey so me and two of my friends headed out to vegas Thursday-Saturday for some poker action. We stayed at the excalibur and they offered a poker rate on top of their low rate.
So first things first we hit up the mgm early afternoon. My experience NL friend sat down on the NL side of the poker room while i sat down with my rookie friend at a 2/4 table while waiting for a 3/6 to open. Play was absmal as we had alot of calling raises with junk and some players calling to the river with not even ace high. I was able to make about $40 with Aces and Queens before i got moved. My friend unfortunately could not make money despite trying to play tag. Sometimes cards dont come and theres nothing you can do. Later that night i was playing break even at excalibur's 2-6 spread limit game. Pretty tight that thursday night so i decided to give the 1-3 NL table a go. It was a learning experience. Lost most of my stack when i commited half my stack preflop with JJ and won some back on a TPTK hand. Eventually lost 80 bucks in that game and called it a night after reviewing some topics with my buddy especially about pot odds and betting sizes.
We hit up Hooters casino for some BJ action and despite the negative posts we had a good time. While i lost some cash at a shoe game my friend went to the Hooter's calender blackjack pit which payed out a 6:5 single deck. Some of the girls were very pretty and some were not. One only look at where the croweded tables were to discern which was which. Anyways i decided to sit with my friends and had a good time as some of the dealers were quite entertaining! Even the Floorman looked like a kid and wore a hawaiian tshirt. Won 60 bucks there.
The following day we ate a wonderful meal at the Commander's Palace and after sobering up from the ir 25 cent martini's hit up the MGM room where i promptly lost 100 at a $3/$6 game. After that we decided to make our last stand at Excalibur where action had heated up as it was friday night.
I sat down at a very loose 1-3 NL game. There were two maniacs would move their $100+stacks in pots of $10 with QJ on one occasion and pocket4 on another. one of these on my left called a guy's $100 all in with A-10 on a J55 and promptly beat the other guy sending him on crazy monkey tilt. I semi and straight bluffed 3 pots for about 3 hours staying slightly above my $100 buy in occured when i picked up JJ again in mid position and was able to triple when my set hit. raked in some huge pots and then returned to mgm in the wee hours to clean up at the 3/6 and 4/8 limit games.
All in all the MGM room was very nice. THere is a bathroom and deli nearby if nothing else! Once again game selection was critical in this game and trip.
