Content: So my wife was going to Vegas on a buisness trip, and I decided to tag along to play some poker while she looked at Jewelry all day. (She was there for the JCK Show)
First Day (Saturday)- Imperial Palace: I headed over to the Palace around noon, to sign up for the $50 freeze-out at 1pm. Only games going when I got there were a 2-4 limit table and a 1-2 no-limit table. Place looked deserted, but I asked about the tournament, and was told it was almost full. I signed up in spot 55 of 60, and it quickly filled up after that. Competition was pretty soft, you could tell a couple of people at my table were complete noobs. Unfortunatly those noobs will stay with any two, and tend to catch on the river. I got put out after only 30 minutes by a girl who caught the gut shot straight on the river to beat my set of Queens. Overall, the IP is a dump, the chips are filthy hot-stamped paulson's that look like they have been played with for years. I leaned on the table, and thought it was going to break. This place has definately seen better days.
Second Day (Sunday)- Golden Nugget: The GN had 4 tables going when I got there on Sunday afternoon, a 2-4, 3-6, and two no-limits. I got into a 2-4 limit game and played for about 2 hours. Competition was playing tight, and I lost about $40. This is a nice room, good quality tables, and nice clean chips. The rack of chips I got looked like they were brand new. The obligitory big screen TVs were playing ESPN. Only complaint that day was the cocktail waitress. She was the rudest person I have ever seen. A couple of the guys at my table even went so far as to complaint to the manager about her. Very unprofessional. Luckily when her shift was over the girl replacing her was great, and we gave her tips just for not being a b*tch.
Third Day (Monday)- Venetian: I got drug to the Jewelry Show that morning, and since it was at the Sands Expo, I wandered over to the Venetian to have a look. This by far is the nicest poker room I have ever seen. Definatly a high rollers game, as the one table I could watch from the rail was a 2-5 No-Limit. The pots were monsters, and the guys that I could see well enough to count had over $3000 in chips. Since this was well more action than I wanted, I cruised over to the Monte Carlo.
Monte Carlo: Only two tables going on Monday after noon, a 2-4 and a 1-2 no-limit. Both full, so I got on the waiting list. After about 15 minutes the manager came over and asked if I was interested in a $50 SNG. Signed up and played with a couple of good players, but mostly kids (21-22) that had seen it on TV and wanted to try it out. MC pays out first two places, 1st-$320 2nd-$70. Played for about an hour, and then the blinds started making it a crap shoot. After it got down to the final three, we chopped the pot and all walked away with $130. Over all, a nice room, but the tables need to be refinished. Since there was still no space in the game here, I caught a cab down to the Luxor.
Luxor: Had a NL game going and a 2-4, when I got there, the immediately opened a second 2-4 because they had just finished with the free poker lessons. I sat down with a bunch of people who still didn't know how to bet, they played real loose, but they were a fun bunch. I started winning pretty well, and then a couple of guys sat down that knew each other. They also knew the dealers, and the management. One even got up and grabbed the remote for the TV and started changing channels. After I dropped all of my winnings, and some of my original stack, I left the locals to it and moved on. Luxor is a nice room, but the chips are gross, it is definatly time for a wash or replacement.
Golden Nugget: Since I was staying a the Four Queens, I ended up back at the GN late Monday night. Sat down with four old ladies. I swear if they were a day old, they were 80. These ladies couldn't see, the dealer had to read off the board cards. They played badly, they bet the wrong amounts at the wrong time, they played out of turn, and they played with any two cards all the way to the river. There play was so bad, that I thought about moving, but I just couldn't. Cause I was robbing them blind. After only 30 minutes of play, I had doubled up my rack, and was just getting settled in when I get a text message from my wife. She was board so she put $2 in a slot machine. Up came 3 blazing sevens, and she hit the progressive for just over $1000. Too keep her from spending too much more money, I had to set and play $2 blackjack with her at the Four Queens.
What a great trip, ended up coming home only down $120, but that included meals and cabs and such. Can't wait to get back a play again.
