Las Vegas Trip Report

I was in Vegas from 4/6 - 4/13 and played in a lot of different casinos. If you are looking to play low limit hold'em the Flamingo and Bally's had some of the softest competition that I found.

Both of these 'rooms' are on the casino floor and helps them to draw in people who are trying poker for the first time. Most of these people are very easy to read. If they are betting out they will have 2 pair or better. Otherwise they just call all the way to the river with dreams of hitting their runner-runner flush or straight.

In most of the 2-4 games that I played in my big Aces (Ace with another face card) gave me a little trouble. There are a lot of players that will play any Ace, so they will hit a 2 pair like A4 and beat your AK.

MGM has a very nice room. I only played here for a couple of hours and my 2-4 table was very loose passive. A friend I was with played at a different table that was full of maniacs. If you don't like your table just ask the floor manager for a table change and you should get the next open seat.

I was not very impressed with the room at Ceasars. The dealers are terrible. Slow dealing the cards and don't control the game at all. I played here twice and both times the drunks at the table wouldn't be paying attention and the dealers would just point at them instead of telling them it is their turn to act. The players here were pretty weak, but we were lucky to get 20 hands an hour. You should be able to get 30 hands an hour with auto shufflers.

The Venetian has the nicest room on the strip. The room is spacious, great service and very comfortable. I think it is just a matter of time before more people start playing here. The 4-8 game is very beatable. I play 12+ hours at the Venetian but never really got much for cards. When I did make a hand it seemed like the pots were very small.

I also play a little 4-8 at Mandalay Bay. The room is nice but it has micro blinds and a 1/2 kill and it was 2:00 PM, so there wasn't a lot going on.

If you are looking for a good low $ tourney you need to play at Sahara. $62 get you 3500 in chips. There are a ton of bad player that will call you down with 2nd pair and drawing hands. The blinds are slow enough that you can be patient. Wait for quality starting hands and you will do fine. I ended up in a 6 way chop for $820 (125 people entered).
