As a big fan of this site, this trip report is an attempt to try to give back a little to this very good forum.
As an aside, due to business, I have had the luxury of playing in nearly all the major rooms in the US. I play mostly low to mid limit HE, but this trip mixed in some NLHE. I prefer cash games and this review may not be helpful if you are a fan of tournaments.
Caesary's Palace: Arrived in town and went to Caesar's to check out the new room. This room is huge and is off on its own as previously reported. They were spreading $4-8 LHE and I jumped in the game. The players were decent especially for this level. In terms of the room, I did not like it. It is has no atmosphere and is like a warehouse. There are better choices.
As a big fan of the Venetian hotel, I was excited about their new room. In my opinion, this may be the best new room in town. The area is convenient to the Strip, the room is segregated enough to have its own area, and the atmosphere and finishes are first class. The rake is currently very good since they do not take 10%, but rather rake at certain pot levels. This room has huge potential to become a middle limt room and spread larger games than the $4-8 limit and $2-5 no limit games currently spread. The only criticism is that the deales are inexperienced and make mistakes; however, this will be corrected over time. As an aside, whoever hired the cocktails waitresses at this casino should be congratulated.
Mirage: I have always enjoyed this room and love the atmostphere and intimacy. Played NLHE with a mixture of locals and tourists. Good game. I love the Orange Julius' and the experienced dealers. As you can tell, I feel that this is a great room and well run. My only complaint is the inconsistent comp policy and the 8 hour a day min for the casino rate. Hopefully, competition will make them aware that they need to change the policy. Notwithstanding, this is one of the best managed rooms in the country.
Treasure Island: Small room converted from an old gift shop. It reminds me of the Palms. I was not very impressed even though I like this hotel. They are trying to spread new games, but will likely be relegated to the obligatory $1-2 and $2-5 NLHE and $4-8 LHE games. I believe they are trying, but the room has its limits.
