Wynn Poker Room is wonderful
Date: 04/04/06
Player: angelano
For Rooms: Wynn,

Summary: Played here final four weekend the games were very good.

Content: I checked into the Wynn Resort on Friday morning March 31, 2006. I arrived there at about 8:00. Made sure to tell the cab driver to avoid the tunnel and the highway. Even though the Wynn is down the strip quite a ways, it saved me money. The registration area is peaceful and elegant with a picture window viewing an astonishing water fall. The person helping me was great and put me in a room over looking the strip and wonderful. After checking in I walked over to the poker room. Since it was so early, not much was going on. Nevertheless I walked into to visit with the poker managers. I normally play poker at Canterbury Park in Minnesota but I was aware that many of the staff formerly worked at Canterbury so I felt right at home. Since the games were just getting going, I went to the spa and worked out, steamed and got my game face together. Unlike other poker trips, I decided before going to have a balanced trip of exercise, sun and poker rather than opting for marathon poker sessions which can end in disaster from playing too long.

The poker room is very nice, it is not as large as Bellagio which in many ways made it more appealing. The key to winning here is to play in the softest games and to avoid a table of all locals. A perfect mix is two or three locals with the rest tourists. It was a challenge finding game like this until late afternoon and evenings. The softest game in the room was the 1-3 no limit. Everyone plays in fear of getting busted. If you play tight solid poker, it should be enough to beat this game. The 8/16 games are also really good as evening comes. There are always some locals in the game and they are very predictable solid players. If you avoid getting involved in hands with these guys unless you have the best hand or draw you should be fine.

Management told me that the best no-limit game is the 2-5, however without a decent amount of no-limit experience I would avoid it as you can lose big money against guys who are comfortable making big bets and big bluffs. It is not a good game for new players.

The comps were very good. I logged about 22 hours and received a reduced room rate, a 20 dollar meal credit and another 25 dollar credit and line pass. I am certain i could have received even more if i asked for it.

Most of the dealers are very good although on one hand a dealer turned the river card before i declared action and i lost the hand. i did not bring it up which was wrong of me but i was having too much fun and it was not that big of a deal.

The pool is fabulous and the deli is great. You can order food from the deli that will be brought to your table so you dont miss a second of action.

I had a great experience but there are certain easier games to beat as a whole then then the ones at the Wynn.
