Crazy! The people in Vegas are flat out crazy.

Summary: I was not prepared for what I was up against. I played at Excalibur, Caesars, Circus, Hard Rock and Paris. I was there Jan 20 and 21st.

Las Vegas Trip Report

I must be the first losing player ever on this site. 1st off, don't ever go to Vegas with a friend who doesn't gamble. That is like going to a steak house with a vegatarian. There are plenty of options, just none of them very good.

I am staying at Circus, Circus. I didn't really want to play there very much. I headed way down to Excalibur. I did pretty good there before.

They did not have $1-2 NL open and I wanted to play now. So, I sat at a $3-6. Half the table was maniacs, one dealer off duty, 1 guy complaining about cards, 2 pretty good players. 1st off the off duty dealer kept messing with my chips, that was bugging me.

Anyway, I played for 3 hours. 1st hand I am dealt A-9 off. I am in the BB, flop comes A-9 blank. I bet $3 and get one caller. What the $%#@? Nobody folded the rest of the time I was there. Why now? One guy was rebuying every 3rd or 4th hand. He never folded preflop, post flop river anything. Why did he fold on my 2 pair? He could not have a read me, it was my 1st hand.

Anyway, no good hands until a pocket pair of Q's. Guy had pocket K's. In all I wound up down $60.

Next we walked down to Caesars. Nice room. I got right into a $1-2 NL. Big mistake. As I walk up, I notice about $12 in $2 chips on the floor. Ok, somebody must have just spilled. I find my seat. The guy to my left is pulling in a pot. This is when it gets strange. Next thing I know chips are flying. The guy is picking the $2 chips out of the pot and flipping them behind him. I look at the guy to his left and he says he has been doing it all along.

The dealer asks if I want to put in the blinds, I should have waited but said ok since I would have had to wait 7 hands. Put in my $2, just as I was doing that, the guy to my left puts in all his chips. The dealer says, "You have to wait until it is your turn." The crazy dude responds, in European accent, "I'm all in." The dealer calls the Room manager, he tells him to pull his chips back, he refuses and nobody made him, so they stayed.

He did this every hand while I was there. He lost about $700 in the 15 minutes I was there. Of course he lucked out against me and won my $200. I pick up QQ, he had A-7 and gets 2 7's on the flop. I was so mad, I had to leave. I knew I would lose much more.

Here is my biggest surprise. Circus, Circus room is nothing real great looking. I had a blast here. I played on Friday and Saturday night. They have $3-6. There is only one blind. The players are bad. There are quite a few regulars, they are there just to socialize. I won a total of $120 there. This was the only room I was up.

Hard Rock does not have a room. They do have a game called Texas Hold'em Bonus. I watched this for a while and thought what the heck. It is like playing heads up with somebody who can not bet into you. You are playing against the dealer. You put out your initial bet, minimum of $5. You see your cards, you bet the flop which must be 2 times your minimum bet, so at least $10. Then you can bet your intial bet on the turn and river.

I doubled my money in about half an hour. So, technically not poker, but I thought it may be of some interest to the poker players. If you know your probability of poker, you will do very well at this game.

Saturday night, I should not have been playing. I had too many beers at the boxing match. I went to Paris, $1-2 NL. I bought in for $100. There is a guy going all in on every hand. I was drunk and got K-Q and called. Of course he has 7-6 and gets a 7.

The fun part of this game was, Glynn Turman was at the table. You probably don't recognize his name, but you would his face. He has been in 52 different movies and numerous TV shows. It took me a while to know where I knew him from.

I lost another $100. So, total of $200 so far. This is where I really got ticked and defeated for the weekend. I rebuy for $100. 2 new guys sit down. I am in the BB and get K-2 of diamonds. Flop comes out 4d-Ad-4s. Three in the hand, SB checks, I check other guy checks. 8s comes out. SB checks, I check, guy checks. Jd on the river. So, I have the nut flush. I forgot a rule that I know, but being a little intoxicated forgot, never lose your stack with a flush when the board is paired. SB checks, I bet $10, the guy calls, the SB goes all in. I am thinking he is slow playing trips, I call, the other guy calls. I immediately flip over the nut flush, the other guy flips over A-6, he went all in with A- freaking 6? The small blind flips over pocket 4's. My heart just sunk.

I learned a lot from this weekend. The people who play live are just as crazy as the internet people. Do not drink and play. Each session should be individual, do not try to recoup from the last one. In all, all the money that I lost were winnings from the internet. So, now I have another year to build up the bankroll and I am coming a little more preparred. I really appreciate this site, the info is right on.
