SPPerry & LVMike's Excellant Adventure 5

Summary: Mike and I drive way down the Boulder "strip" looking for card games. I brag about how I know poker "royalty" and deservedly get laughed at.

Las Vegas Trip Report

Excellant Adventure 5 happened last night. Originally Mike and I wanted to hit all of the Coast Casino's. We hit 3 and one out of the way independant. This was a fun trip with two guests at the final stop. And I dropped a "big" name in poker and catch crap for it.

Normally we have these adventures on Monday morning. But due to a temperary change in my schedule, I was free Friday night. So we start our adventure at 8 pm at Sam's town.

Mike was already playing in a 1-2-4-8-8 game when I arrived. I got in instantly and started playing. The action was good. A couple of drunks and a lot of locals. They had 3 tournament tables going when I got there. After an hour they started a nl game which Mike played in. The floor people were on the ball and the dealers were good.

For Friday night they had four cash games going. Not huge action, but good games. Overall a nice place to play. I lost $34 dollars.

We left Sam's town at 10pm and proceeded to go to another Coast owned casino, Joker's Wild. This is a very small casino about 5 miles south of Sam's town on the Boulder Strip in Henderson. My perception of this casino is that it reminds me of a native american casino like the ones I played at in New mexico 10 years ago. It has a 4 table poker room just adjacent to the craps pit. They had one game going, 2-4 spread limit hold'em. Good action. One of their dealers, Joe was in the game. Nice guy.

Overall there wasn't much action in the room for 11 pm on a Friday. But the staff was friendly, they had high hand bonuses and an hours played promotion. Get $599 for playing 130 hours in a month. They use stud cards (a little weird). Nice place but like many of the stops on the excellant adventure, I can't see us going back there again due to the distance. I lost $58.

We played for one 1/2 hour and left at 11 pm. Mike told me about a casino about 10 miles further south on the Boulder Strip. I said where Arizona. Close. the casino is Club Fortune. One of the last independent casinos in Nevada (I prefer independant casinos such as South Point, I know cheap plug).

Club Fortune has three poker tables right next to the table games pit. They had one game going, 3-6 hold'em with a 1/2 kill. The dealers were good and took turns working as floorman. They take a $3 max rake. Mike and I both became Club members. Each of us got a T-shirt for joining the club. Its a nice place for locals but too far away. If I lived in Henderson, I would stop by there and play. We left at 12:15am. I lost $40.

At this point we picked up two extras for the Excellant Adventure. Bowling fool, an Avper and my ex, I affectionately call "EVIL". We met them at the Orleans. It was time for breakfast so we went to the cafe. I avoided pancakes this week and had chicken parmagan. The cafe at the Orleans is one of the best in town. Evil had the Mongolian beef. They have a great chinese food menu.

At this meal I opened my mouth during one conversation and stuck my foot in it. And I will be paying for this for a while. Somehow we started talking about "famous" poker players. I typically don't drop names but I was tired. So I bragged about one "infamous" player being an aquantance of mine. I even said, "He knows me." like I was bragging. When most people drop names they use big stars. In this industry that would be Helmouth, Brunson, Chan, Fergusen and people like that. But not me, I told everyone at the table I know Sam Grissle and he knows me. This is the reason for Mike's new tag line.

After the meal we went into the poker room. There were about 15 live games going. Mike, Evil and I jumped into an Omaha Hi/Lo game. The action was good and me and evil played for 4 1/2 hours. Mike played for an hour and jumped into a mixed game. During that time, they harrased me continuosly about my poker contacts. I won 200 in the game.

Most of you who live here have played at the Orleans. Its a fun locals casino with good restaurants, nice shows, a movie theatre and a good poker room.

On the trip I won about $70. It was a lot of fun. I have learned not to stick my foot in my mouth. (Let's be honest, I'll do it again) I went to casinos I would never have visited and had fun hanging with Mike, Bowling Fool and Evil. With the World Series in town there are still 5000 dealers in this city. So all of the action within this city is great.

The next trip, ea6 will happen soon. Any ideas?

Good Luck,

SouthPointPerry
