Trip Report Labor Day Weekend - Downtown Date: 09/24/07 Player: fusino For Rooms: Golden Nugget,Mirage,Treasure Island (TI),Venetian, Summary: Good poker and great food. Content: Okay so we get to Vegas on the evening of Aug. 30th and take a shuttle to the GN downtown. Love downtown by the way. Nothing all that eventful the first evening as I was exhausted and felt it would probably be better to wait until the next morning until playing. Wake up the next morning and decide to play in the 11am $70 buy-in tourney at the Nug. There are about 30 players in all, and I got out just before the first break after a couple of cooler hands - the most frustrating was losing with a set of 8s and king kicker to a set of 8s and an ace kicker. After that I sat down in the 1-2 NL game for an hour or so - I doubled my money fairly quickly, but got back to even after calling another guy's all-in with A-K to his A-Q - flop came a queen, and I didn't improve. Later that night at 1 a.m. I decided to play in the $70 tourney again, and this time things went much better - 30 or so players in this one too. It came down to me and another gentleman, and since it was 5 a.m., and our chips were about even, we decided to chop it for $749 each. The next morning I decided to play 4-8 limit, and hit quad kings for a high-hand jackpot of $190, and improved my original stack about $100 before leaving to play some craps/blackjack. The rest of the trip was fine - I played at the Venetian, Mirage and TI. I broke just about even in all of those sessions. In the end I came out about +$1,200 for the trip, so definitely no complaints here. Love the Golden Nugget, but every other room downtown is pretty sketchy. |
