Summary: 3 days in Vegas is not enough...or is it too much?

Content:
My wife and I arrived in Vegas at 8am Saturday. We had reservations at Harrah’s for Saturday and had planned on switching to Paris for Sunday. We called the hotel and got lucky and were able to change to Paris for both nights and saved 60 bucks in doing so not to mention avoiding the switch. 10 minutes on the ground and we got lucky already.
Took the cab to the hotel and we scored a room right away. Lucky break number 2 for the day, this was going to be a good trip.
After a few minutes to freshen up we decided to head down stairs and see what kind of trouble we could get into. After walking around for a while debating if we should go to Planet Hollywood or TI we decided to grab lunch and wait for the 1:30 all in fest of a tournament at Paris. We grabbed a quick lunch and some beers at the burger place in Paris and headed over for the tournament. I don’t really remember the details of this tournament I just know I was gone before my wife. After she got knocked out we headed over to play some slots. She has a Wheel Of Fortune machine in the high limit area that she has good luck on every time we are there and this time was no different as we walked away up over $3000 within a few minutes. I told you this was going to be a good trip. From here on out it gets a little fuzzy. We were going to head to PH for the 7 pm. Tournament but it was ladies only and she didn’t want to play without me so we decided to play the 7:30 tournament at Paris. I played ok in this one and made the final table but had been card dead and came in pretty short stacked and was quickly gone in 9th.
At this point more poker was out of the question as the Coors Light was defiantly kicking in so we stepped in to Les Artist at Paris for a late dinner. We had been there twice before and had really enjoyed it but this time, not so much. The waiter told us due to the coming change in ownership of Harrahs they have switched suppliers to keep costs down and make as much money as possible before the change. Good business but bad eating. After the food and a bottle of wine it was time for bed.
Sunday morning started early. A quick walk to Walgreens for a razor, a shower and some breakfast all before 9. At this point I sent my wife to the spa and decided I needed a little more sleep. I didn’t know it at the time but the nap would turn out to be a very good idea.
After my wife came back from her spa treatment we headed over to PH for the 2pm. Tournament. Thanks to everyone who recommended this one it is a great format for the price. Nothing really stands out here either we both played good and made the final table. Things were looking good for both of us when we were down to 8. I woke up with jacks UTG and pushed with my shorter then average stack and got 2 callers, a guy with 8’s and my wife with queens. I was gone and she was looking good. Thanks Honey! She cashed in 4th and we set off for dinner. This time we decided on the steak house at Bally’s. Well after the meal the day before you think I would have known better then to try a Harrahs property but I didn’t. My prime rib was average at best and her lobster tail was so bad she sent it back twice and ended up with nothing but a side of vegetables to eat. Moral of this story is until the sale is complete you may want to stay away.
After dinner I pulled out my AVP tournament list and decided to head for TI again based on the feedback from all the people here. Played this ok until we got down to 7 left at the table. I had queen 10 of diamonds and limped in. Everyone folded except BB who checked. Flop was A Q something BB checked and I pushed he quickly called turned over the ace and more then half my stack was gone. The guy next to me said “that kinda sucks” Yep it kinda did. With the blinds up and my short stack it only took a couple hands and me and one other guy were out on the same hand and the remaining players were in the money. I was pretty disappointed because I felt like I had played good up to that point and that one mistake screwed me. But looking back I don’t know that I would do it different next time. I could have probably cruised into the money but then I would have been short stacked and would have been out with less then first and I wanted to be big stack and win.
So we left there and headed to PH again for the 2 am. This is where things get interesting. We had 40 players sign up. First hand blinds are 25 50 I am in middle position and get KK I raise it to 250 folds to BB who makes it 800 to go. I thought about this for a minute I didn’t want to call because I didn’t want to see an ace on the flop. So I pushed all in he instacalled and turned over A Q off. Need less to say an ace and a queen came on the flop and I was gone. What did I do wrong? I can’t see how he made the all in call. I like his raise but can’t believe he made the call.
Because you can re-enter for the first hour I did just that and sat right back down in the same spot. I played TAG poker for the next hour and built my stack up to the chip lead at our table. I knocked the same guy out twice that was kinda fun. Finally the guy who knocked me out earlier moved all in after I made a raise that was equal or a little more then his stack while he was BB. I turned over my pocket jacks he flipped 33. Yes sweet revenge! Nope you guessed it he got a 3 on the river. My wife got knocked out and headed up to the room. Shortly there after we got down to the final table.
There was no dominant stack but there a few short stacks. One guy with a blue tooth in his ear (BTG) suggests that we pay all the way down to 10 spots instead of only 6. I said hell no I have $120 invested in this I need as much as I can get. So we started playing. Two guys dropped pretty quickly and the blinds went up to 2000 and 4000, I think. BTG suggests 8 get paid and again we say no. It was time to color up the 100 and 500 chips so we took a break. After break the guy to the right of BTG says “Hey I had a $5000 chip where did it go?” Now he had just been in a big pot before break and it was late so we figured he was wrong, but he was insistent he had a 5000 chip and now it was gone. The dealer calls the floor over who counts all the chips and decides they all are in play so he must be wrong. Lost chip guy (LCG) says “no way check the camera” So the floor makes a huge mistake and says start playing we’ll figure it out later. At this point BTG gets very aggressive and is quickly out within a few hands. The floor guy comes back and informs us that security didn’t see anything but I will go look for myself. So in the time being keep playing. LCG goes out next and we get to 6 left. The guy who knocked me out earlier goes out in 6th but they won’t pay him until the lost chip is resolved. After a few minutes the dealer says we are pausing the game. So I head to the bathroom. When I get back LCG and the 6th place guy are both at the table with chips on front of them. Floor explains that BTG slipped the 5000 chip from LTG who is long gone by now. Explains why he got so aggressive he knew he was busted. So I get mad at the floor guy and explain that the game should have been paused until this was resolved but what else could he do? Well LCG only has 5000 so he moves all in right away and I knock him out. At which point the floor is called again and all 6 players agree 6th place guy shouldn’t benefit from this and he is taken back out of the game. After all the stopping and starting we got down to 3 handed and played that way for at least 45 minutes at which point I suggested a chop which they agreed to and I headed to bed at 7am with $362.
Monday was very uneventful as I was so tired I could hardly think, much less play poker. So we just had a late breakfast checked out and headed for the airport.
Sorry there isn’t too much hand by hand stuff in my report but it is a trip report not a hand by hand report and the Coors clouds my memory.
