| Eastside Cannery Poker Room Description |
|
The Eastside Cannery poker room just grand opened in 2008 (along with the entire casino and hotel), and offers 8 tables, 4 of which have autoshufflers. The tables are lacking when it comes to creature comforts. The felts are plain green (with no casino logo) and the armrests do not include cup holders. The chairs are standard non adjustable/non swivel, which is surprising considering that nearly all new rooms have adjustable/swivel chairs as a commonly accepted amenity. Though the room itself is nicely apportioned with plenty of side tables, televisions, and electronic player management systems, it seems that the lower quality tables, felts, and chairs really do not do the room justice.
Located directly adjacent to Sam’s Town, on the “Boulder Strip”, the poker room at the Eastside Cannery is designed and built with the older local customer in mind. In fact, the room obviously wanted to concentrate on bringing a daily stud game to the room, as a specially cut stud table is front and forward in the center of the room. Though a stud game does seem to spread semi-daily, it is usually limited to the dayshift hours.
The layout of the room seems to be a true flaw in design. The room has 4 autoshufflers out of 8 tables, and only 1 of those tables is located on the front rail of the room (one is in the very back and the other two are to the left side of the room, behind the management desk). The most commonly used tables are located to the side of the room, away from the front rails, and are used for 2/4 and 4/8. It seems that putting a stud table front and forward in the room shows a rather old fashioned view of the Vegas poker scene, and a concentration on the past versus the present and future.
Aesthetically, the Eastside Cannery poker room is slightly above average. The entire casino is very new, so the fixtures, televisions, tables and chairs are all barely broken in and the carpet still has a vibrant luster. The tables are nothing special at all as far as design, and the chairs are below average (especially for a new room). The colors, use of tile and marble, and the lightboard wall and pillar adornments are nice touches that slightly elevate this room aesthetically above that of Boulder Station, but the room most certainly is a drop down from its direct neighbor of Sam’s Town, which offers 11 tables, a large spread out room, and adjustable/swivel chairs.
Overall, the Eastside Cannery poker room quality is slightly above average. The technology included in the room with regards to the Genesis Bravo system is impressive, but the table and chair quality is quite disappointing. The room is a nice addition to the Boulder Strip, and will more than likely build a solid customer base over time due to its customer friendly rake and locals driven promotions.

Enough players to merit the room?

It's right off the Boulder Highway side entrance across from the not-bad sports book. Has auto shufflers at some tables and so far everything is new and clean and tidy. I was there on a Friday night 6-9pm and there were only two tables, one 1-2 NL and one low-limit hold'em, then Saturday night, at 11pm-2am or so, which should be prime poker hours, and the only table going was 2-7 7-card stud. I kn... Read more »
