Stardust Player Room Review
Old School Poker at its best
11/16/05, Player: LemonButt
Total Rating: 4.40
Room Quality Rating: 4
Room Quality Description: The room is old like the rest of the Stardust, but seemed to me to be much better kept than similar properties such as Circus Circus and Sahara. The room was in good condition, but you could tell the tables had many years of wear. One of the tables had a gap between the felt and the arm rest which chips could slide into, but that was only a minor issue. There was ample leg/elbow room at all tables, however a few tables do not have a bar for your feet to rest on like most poker tables. The atmosphere was great and I enjoyed playing there much more than I thought I would. The poker chips are very high quality with a metal insert in the center which I was very impressed by. The only thing that pulls this rating down is the fact that it is an older room and doesn't offer an incredibly huge spread of games (the only games I saw were 3-6 limit and 1-2 no limit, 7 card stud hadn't been played in a year and a half). A few of the tables have autoshufflers.
Competition Rating: 5
Competition Description: I played 1-2 no limit the first time I visited. I averaged $100/hour playing. One woman was a complete maniac at the table. She pushed over $200 into a $50 pot at the river with just king high and I had her dominated with a set of 8s. There are many many regulars and locals there who seem to play for entertainment as opposed to making money which makes them easy targets. The limit games were a little bit tighter. Limit games have a bet and 5 raise max as opposed to 3 raise max like many other casinos. Heads up betting has no cap.
Dealer Rating: 5
Dealer Description: You can deal cards horrible and make mistakes, but if you can control your game and put people in their place when they are out of line, you are doing your job. I saw many mouthy people get out of hand with taunting etc and they were put in their place by more than one dealer. Most of the dealers have been there 30 years or so and love to tell stories. I saw very few errors while playing the game.
Cocktail Rating: 3
Cocktail Description: Were the cocktail waitresses attractive? 30 years ago they were probably bombshells, however much like the dealers, they have all been working there for 30 years or more and most of them fall into the senior citizen category. Drinks showed up relatively quick. There are small tables on wheels you can pull upto your seat at the table as well.
Management Rating: 5
Management Description: I was very satisfied with the management here. They knew what they were doing and ensured everyone had a good poker experience.
Comps Rating: 5
Comps Description: $5 comp for 3 1/2 hours of play (which is a full meal at the snack bar). If you play 15 hours in 1 week you are eligible for the $2500 freeroll on Wednesdays which is a sweet deal. The bad beat jackpot is almost impossible to hit and is currently at about $61,000 and has to have aces full of tens or better beat by quads or better to win. All players at the table get a piece of the jackpot. I much prefer high hand jackpots to bad beats since only one person has to get a hand for high hand where two people must get a hand for a bad beat. I did see a few hands where a bad beat jackpot was almost hit. One of them was quads beating aces full of sevens which didn't quite make it (there was also a possible straight flush on board).
