Palms Player Room Review

I was disappointed.
11/15/05, Player: Rex

Total Rating: 1.80

Room Quality Rating: 1
Room Quality Description: The table was like a pillow. The middle was fluffed up, and the sides sloped down toward the edge of the table. Completely uneven. I could not stack my chips upright. I had to lay them on their sides. When I would throw chips in, sometimes they would roll back toward me. The dealer flopped to the left of the auto-shuffle. Those of us on the extreme right end would often have to ask what the cards were, as they were so far away they were difficult to see without binoculars.

Competition Rating: 2
Competition Description: Had two gouchy old people. One 70 year old lady kept cursing, throwing chips, and walking around the room in frustration while mumbling obsenities. After every hand! Everyone laughed at the "spunky old lady". While amusing the first or second time, this routine got old quickly. Apparently she is a regular and well-known. Eeesh. There was also a spiky haired 20 something MTV tag-team, but they stunk, so we actually benefitted from the low guy raising 2-7's. A couple of locals were tough. It's a schizophenic room.

Dealer Rating: 3
Dealer Description: They were okay, but encuraged grouchy woman by laughing at her antics. The didn't make any mistakes, and seemed like nice people. Standard dealers.

Cocktail Rating: 1
Cocktail Description: Asked former playboy bunny for a bottled water. She said "I am going to take orders starting at the first table, I'll get to you late". She did. 30 minutes later. Now, maybe I am getting too old (37), but when the customer asks for a drink, you take the order. She had a snot attitutude because her tits made up for it ... at least in her eyes. Since moving to Vegas 9 months ago, I have gotten used to attractive waitresses, and I appreciate good service more than big boobs now. If I want knockers, I will go to a strip club. If I want a drink, I want a waitress. If they have both, all the better, but these chicks just have the former. How you perceive the waitresses will depend on your mood. Do you want a drink, or do you want eye candy? You aint getting both. At least not in a timely and friendly manner.

Management Rating: 1
Management Description: They took my name on the list. I played some nickel video poker next to the podium just to pass some time. I won $3 in 15 minutes at nickel Double Double (no jokes please, it's better than standing around). I walked up to the podium to see where I was. I asked if they would announce my name over the speaker when my table was open. He said "No, we don't have a PA, you need to be present when your table opens or we give it away". I said "So I stand right here?". He said, "step back about 5 feet and wait there". There is no rail. So I am standing at the entrance to the room like a dipshit for another 15 minutes. I can't lean on anything, and I don't dare wander very far. I just stand there in the middle of the floor. O ...... K The floorpeople stood around joking with each other and making fun of the looks of their players. Not professional in my book. I felt like I was a nuisance to request a seat in their room. I'm not a big fan of that management style.

Comps Rating: 4
Comps Description: $1/hour on Palms card. Not bad. I don't want to bash the Palms too much. The Palms has the best Video Poker paytables on the planet. That's where I go to play video games. They have good blackjack, and good promo's for locals. But I don't think I will play another hold 'em game there. The room is just really not my style. There are too many superior places to play in Vegas. It's like visiting Philly and geting a cheesteak from Pizza Hut. Go to Pat's or Geno's - in other words Bellagio, MGM, Luxor, Alladin, etc ...
