Tuscany Player Room Review
Without smoking, this room has no niche, and no point...

Room Quality Description: Tuscany and its poker room is a property that definately has some identity issues. Being an off Strip property, it is too close to the Strip to be a locals casino, but too far to be a Strip casino. They originally opened with a niche: they were a smoking room. This niche went away, and so did any reason to go there. The room itself is pretty standard. The bar that was fully functioning when the room opened is now closed down, and provides nothing more then a place to stand when you want to smoke. It is a pretty wierd policy, actually. Although it is an enclosed room, they allow smoking at the closed bar area (which is in a corner of the room) 24 hours a day, but not at the tables themselves. Considering how close the bar is to the tables, this is really a pointless policy.
The tables are well spread apart, and there are large plasmas on the wall (with no premium sports channels), but there are no autoshufflers, and the chairs are pretty standard. They spread mainly 2/4 95% of the time and an occasional NL game. There is no racetrack (which I prefer), but the lack of autoshufflers, and a strictly low stakes environment, with a wierd smoking allowed in the room but not at the tables policy, this room doesn't provide a good vibe or atmosphere, but like I said, it is roomy, which is nice.
Competition Rating: 4
Competition Description: Competition here is primarily comprised of cheap tourists and convention attendees, which a couple locals here and there. Lots of limping, lots of young drunk wannabees, and basic convention types. The competition is not a reason to go here, as there will be bad calls, but there will also be suckouts, and although easy, it is better elsewhere.
Dealer Rating: 3
Dealer Description: When a poker room does not invest in autoshufflers, good or excellent dealing staff is essential, since there is hand shuffling every hand. Unfortunately, although they have very nice personalities and all, they are lacking in the speed department, which is not good across the board. There was one misdeal, but it was not a big deal. All in all, the dealing staff is friendly, and gets the job done, just not as fast as they could be. Pretty average in all respects.
Cocktail Rating: 4
Cocktail Description: Cocktails waitresses were around fairly often, and needs were attended to. Not the fastest, but not slow either. From what I heard from the other players, the drinks were of good quality, and the beers were cold.
Management Rating: 4
Management Description: Management was fine. There was one table going when I got there, and he pulled a couple prop players off the table when a few guys entered. The one manager I met was friendly, and took care of everything quickly. Good management.
Comps Rating: 2
Comps Description: I was not impressed with the comps. There is a $4 rake, plus $1 out of the pot for the jackpot, at a 2/4 game. I do not find the jackpot to be worth it at all, considering the high rake. They give a bottle of wine when you win with the "hand of the day" and there are other random smaller bonuses during certain hours of the day (a policy I am also not a fan of). Given the rake, the bonuses at different times, the $1 taken from the pot, and the lack of general food comps, I have to go below average here. All in all, I will not be back to the Tuscany, even though I walked away with a modest profit. It is not the session profit or loss that grades a room, it is the room itself, and this room falls short, and is simply not worth the drive.
