Electronic Poker Tables a Hit with Me!

Room Quality Rating: 4
Room Quality Description: First of all, my comments are of a Las Vegas local who plays mostly NL on PokerStars. The "room" is just a bunch of room dividers laid out in the pit but there's not as much casino noise or smoke as you might expect, The atmosphere is not close to being on par with most of the other rooms in town. However, the proximity to the pit games and the less intimidating feel, may allow for more novice players, which is good. Rake is $1 less than with the live games, but the increments raked are in quarters rather than dollars, so the rake is only somewhat better. One thing should be said about limits. The limits currently listed on AVP are not accurate. The staple game is $.50-$1 NL. You usually will find a $1-$2 NL game in the evening. If you see a limit game it will be $2-$4. However, sometimes you will also see a game not dealt anywhere else in Vegas, like Pot Limit Omaha or Hi-Lo Holdem. The electronic PokerPro machines jump the Room Quality Rating from "Below Average" to "Good" however. What is really good is that you can deposit money with your player's card and use it like at ATM whenever you want to play or need money.
Competition Rating: 4
Competition Description: The Excaliber has the whole range of players. Expert NL locals ply their trade here, but also many times there are tables full of bad players. It is easy to find games that are balanced with good players and bad, and it is also easy to discern which is which. , After weeks of play, I have not seen any evidence of collusion as feared in some of the earlier critiques.
Dealer Rating: 5
Dealer Description: Take it from somebody who dealt poker for more than 5 years in Las Vegas, these tables are great! Graphics are very good (altho' they should be faster to allow for more hands), no mistakes, games move at a consistent rate, and there is no tipping! As the games are faster than hand-dealt games, this increases the $/hr of winning players and the loss/hr of losing players.
Cocktail Rating: 2
Cocktail Description: The cocktail waitress are not attractive or attentive. They might be considered curt, or even surly. I suppose it may be that with the absence of chips in the room tips are below expectation, and the players are getting what they pay for. Thank God I don't drink, and can get my own water from the self-serve water fountain in one of the corners of the room. This service is one step above bad.
Management Rating: 3
Management Description: The quality of the floor staff is all over the board, from very good to bad. Because of the electronic nature of the system, the players do most of the policing in their individual games. Some of the floor people coagulate at the cashier's booth in the middle of the room and don't pay attention, other than to whatever discussions they are having at the time. However, this can't be said for all floor people. Some are very good and would be a top employee in any cardroom! List management I rated as spotty because of the gaggle not paying attention at the cashier's booth. But if you are new to using the electronic tables, all of the floorpeople are excellent at instructing the player on how to use the system!
Comps Rating: 3
Comps Description: I don't personally like bad-beat jackpots and spinning poker wheels and this room has both which are paid out of an extra dollar taken out of the pot. There is a football promotion for Sunday, Monday and some Thursday nights (also funded by that same $1 taken out of the pots). The best promotion is the daily freeroll at 9am. Unfortunately, if you don't get in line by 7am you won't get in the tournament. These promos are not too helpful for me, but for the player who gets up early it is a good deal.
