Tuscany Player Room Review
Not too exciting. Questionable staff.

Room Quality Rating: 3
Room Quality Description: I've stayed at the Tusk on three separate occasions. While I like the guest rooms, the poker room leaves me wanting more. I'll give them credit for trying to foster a family atmosphere... but unfortunately, it's a bit of a dysfunctional family. There are only a few tables, with one or two active when no tourney is going on. Tables were fairly clean and chairs are adequate. I hear their low buy in tourneys are popular and bring in a lot of runners. All in all, a pretty plain jane room.
Competition Rating: 3
Competition Description: Lots of local prop players logging hours for freerolls and comps. They seem to play pretty tight. A few tourists like me every now and then. Managers and dealers sit in to fill seats, playing uber-tight. Usually an obnoxious drunk or two in the room. The locals are not always good, but some are solid. I've seen drunks turn the game loose and crazy.
Dealer Rating: 2
Dealer Description: With the exception of one or two excellent dealers, the staff here is just OK. They are friendly enough, but a few seem like they are still cutting their teeth. Overall, the below average rating is due to the fact that some of the dealers are REALLY chummy with their regulars, to the point of being unprofessional. I have observed one dealer there covertly and repeatedly flashing mucked cards to players at the end of the table. Totally NOT cool.
Cocktail Rating: 4
Cocktail Description: Nothing special. Girls were above average in appearance and charm.
Management Rating: 2
Management Description: I'd like to say "good" due to their friendliness and dedication to keeping the game going... but I have a serious gripe. One afternoon while killing time waiting to check in, I sat at a short-handed $3-6 limit game. I was getting my a$$ handed to me by a loud, filthy, insufferable drunk who managed to take nearly EVERY hand with the craziest cards. A real trash-talking, slow rolling SOB... one of the worst I've seen. Beer and a shot, beer and a shot, over and over and over. I was willing to endure this creep because sooner or later he was going to give it back. Just when he started to blow a couple hands, the floor manager quietly pulled him aside and told him they were cutting him off from the booze -- not because of his antics, but because the manager told him "you do this every time and lose it all back." From that point on, Mr. Jim Beam clammed up and clamped down. That pretty much killed the game and my hopes for digging out of the hole I was in. When I confronted the manager on the way out, he was unapologetic. He said, "that guy's a regular and I just want to be sure he gets home OK." If that were the case, they could have kicked him out, put him an a cab with his winnings and sent him the 2 blocks home. I told him if they were in the habit of favoring their obnoxious drunk regulars over paying hotel guests, then I was going to find another place to stay and play. As a matter of fact, I switched my company's group reservations over to Planet Hollywood for this April, partly due to wanting to be closer to some better poker rooms.
Comps Rating: 3
Comps Description: Don't know, as I never asked. The locals seem to like the comps and freerolls.
