Orleans Player Room Review

Good and Bad
05/23/07, Player: MileHiRy

Total Rating: 3.50

Room Quality Rating: 4
Room Quality Description: The room is very large, and the tables have ample room for moving from place to place. The chairs are uncomfortable, but most of the tables/felts are in good condition. The tourney tables do not have auto shufflers, cash game ones do. Television coverage is good. The location of the room certainly helps its local populace, being so close to the parking areas and away from the main casino action. It's not great for a visitor like myself, who likes to people watch when not in a hand (and look at any girls that might walk by). The room has its own cashier cage, which is nice but means very little chip-running. Not a glamorous room, but always a game and serviceable.

Competition Rating: 1
Competition Description: I played on Sunday-Tuesday, primarily during the day. Not a recipe for success at a place like this, I know. I consider myself a very knowledgeable player, and if I wasn't losing, I was grinding. Most of the players who won big money got the payoff because their opponent had second nuts or some other huge hand to pay them. I played mostly 1-2 NL, found the 4-8 limit game to be a bit looser and easier to grab some $ from. They have many Omaha games going, and the noise from the tables made it sound like they were the most loose and crazy of them all.

Dealer Rating: 3
Dealer Description: Some with personalities, some without. Some lazy mistakes. What you'd expect in a room full of locals, they're used to not having to call action and when someone comes in who needs it called, they take a bit of time to warm up. BTW, a couple of really cute lady dealers. Sweeet...

Cocktail Rating: 4
Cocktail Description: They'd get a 5 if they were a bit faster. Most are pretty darn hot. The drinks are tiny, and some were mixed well, others were typical casino-weak. Too bad the hottest were always by the table games pit rather than the poker room, but still. Awesome.

Management Rating: 3
Management Description: The lists are not run very well, and the technology is behind for a room this size serving this consistent number of people. They need pagers, more dealers on standby for the games, and a better comp-tracking system. Tourney management was pretty good. I thought the managers and floor-runners were just friendly and attentive enough. I made many efforts to be polite with introductions and tips, and they never knew me by name after 3 days. And I'm odd-looking, so it wasn't cause they were confusing me with someone else! More than dealers, I expect to be wowed by these people. BTW, also a couple of cute lady managers...

Comps Rating: 5
Comps Description: Once your comps are properly tracked, I found them to be excellent. I got a room rate discount and was able to eat at least one decent meal per day based on my 1st two play sessions each day. Bad beat jackpot is always enticing.
