Sahara Player Room Review
Great tournaments, so-so otherwise (January trip)
01/30/07, Player: NoLimitTim
Total Rating: 3.00
Room Quality Rating: 3
Room Quality Description: Table spacing is pretty good - not too crowded to move. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary with table & chair quality. Like most rooms in Vegas, this room is only technically non-smoking on a crowded night since smokers walk about 2 feet away to light up.
Competition Rating: 2
Competition Description: I mostly played (and enjoyed) the daily tournaments and there were more solid-to-good players than I expected. Still one or two bad players at each table. The live games only rarely included no-limit and when they did they tended to be shorthanded with some friendly but generally smart and aggressive regulars. I would not recommend the live no-limit games to a new or hesitant player - you'll find easier pickings further south on the strip. I can't comment on the quality of 2/4 limit play since I never tried it.
Dealer Rating: 4
Dealer Description: I don't remember seeing any big mistakes, and the dealers were very good dealing with split pots, etc. Tournaments seem to be the hardest situations for dealers to handle without mistakes, and I played several of them without seeing any problems.
Cocktail Rating: 3
Cocktail Description: If any room I played in Vegas had really quick and good service, I'd rank the Sahara lower. However, everywhere I played had 5-10 minute delays to get served so this room seemed about average. Cocktail servers were older here than in most rooms in case you care about that.
Management Rating: 5
Management Description: Management seemed very personable and willing to answer questions and solve problems. I think they're doing the best they can given the so-so location of the casino and upper management's typical unwillingness to let the poker room spend any promotional money.
Comps Rating: 2
Comps Description: Only food comps ($3 off) were offered, only for live play. If you are looking to get the Poker rate when staying here, be aware that only 2-4 limit was played with any regularity. For a no-limit and tourney player like me, asking to stay at the Poker room rate may sentence you to hours and hours of a boring game you don't like.
