Sahara Player Room Review

Excellent Tournament Structure
01/14/07, Player: MorgueArtist

Total Rating: 3.80

Room Quality Rating: 4
Room Quality Description: Overall the poker room was ok looking nothing special but not dumpy either. Seat cushions are available, not many though. Chips for tournaments are not marked with a denomination so you'll have to remember when it's explained to you at the start of play. It's $ 42 for 3000 chips and you have an option to add on or rebuy once in the first hour of play for $ 20 for 2000 chips. I took the add on right up front. When you double up you want to be at 10,000 chips not 6,000. Almost no one added on right up front. They waited until they busted out or at the end of the first hour. Decent players in early position would frequently limp with their AA or KK and set traps. After the second break the blinds start getting up there so you'll have to start making moves if you are short stacked. This is an excellent tourney for a patient player willing to wait for premium hands and play them hard and also see some cheap flops early in the first few rounds. There was about 100 players in the 7 PM tourney on Wednesday and only 30 or so busted out by the second break two hours into it. You get a LOT of play for your money in this tournament with 5000 starting chips. I highly recommend playing this one for all level of players. I'll definately play this one again when I come back. No smoking but you can quickly step around the ropes on breaks and have a quick one if you do smoke. The room is in the slots area but wasn't smokey to sit and play at. This tournament pays out about the top 10%. 100 players = 10 places paid. 90 players 9 places, 80 places = 8 players etc. The one I played in paid $ 2000 to first, $ 1000 to second, $ 500 for third, $ 250 ? for fourth etc.

Competition Rating: 3
Competition Description: Probably 80 % locals at the tables. Mostly under 40 crowd with a few elderly folks. Most average players are not laying down top pair with a great kicker so wait for a good hand to bust 'em with. There was a few players who would push all in with a flush draw or a Q or A flush draw on a 3 flush flop more than once. In the first few rounds there are about 6 limpers each hand. Most of the better players are the younger guys who are clean cut and not too stupid in their play but aggressive with good hands.

Dealer Rating: 4
Dealer Description: Dealers were knowledgable, freindly, and kept the game moving.

Cocktail Rating: 4
Cocktail Description: The waitress was around every half hour or so which was enough for me. Free drinks even wine as long as you tipped them. Quick service.

Management Rating: 5
Management Description: They were very helpful over the phone and also in person answering questions about the tournament, number of players expected, and payout places.

Comps Rating: 3
Comps Description: Didn't ask about them.
