Promos pack small, mostly locals room

Rating
Room Quality: 3
This room has a lot going for it. The play is generally soft and the dealers are good. It gives away a lot in promotions and takes just a $1 jackpot drop. But the tables are a bit crowded together, and not all have shufflers. The seats are just OK comfortable. The room is packed during promo periods, but dead when the promos are not in effect. (I made the mistake of stopping by on a Saturday afternoon and saw only 2 tables going.) It's a comfortable, low-pressure play to relax and play.
Competition: 4
I played mostly in the $4/$8 limit (w/ 1/2 kill) game during promo times, so my take on the players is somewhat skewed by that. The tables I sat in on were filled with mostly locals; it was obvious many knew each other--and were known by many of the dealers. The games were almost always very loose-passive, although I did find some surprising tight-passive play at time, surprising because the $4/$8 game plays with just $1 and $2 blinds and just $2 to go. Yet I often saw far fewer limpers than I expected and a preflop raise often caused previous limpers to fold. Occasionally, I saw some loose-aggressive play, but it was obvious it was more for "action" than for any knowledge of the game or players, and these players are ridiculously easy to exploit. Play a solid, ABC tight-aggressive game and you'll be profitable in this game over the long term.
Dealers: 3
The dealers were generally good. A couple were quite perky and friendly, but not at all to the point of distraction or annoyance. I don't recall any mistakes in reading boards, and most mechanical mistakes were from dealers trying to go too fast.
Cocktails: 3
Don't know. Never got any.
Management: 3
A "3" rating is the average of good things and bad things. The desk is in a tremendously inconvenient place, where there's not enough room for people who crowd around. Management does a pretty good job of handling the crowd, but not always. I saw a number of times where locals seemed to be favored over folks they didn't know. But they keep the games moving well. Once, I saw a player ask to be moved to a table with a shuffler, to get more hands in during the promo period, and management obliged.
Comps & Bonuses: 4
Quite nice. In addition to pretty much standard comps, you get a buffet voucher after several hours of play.
