Content: The All Vegas Poker Opinion on Advertising

What’s up with these annoying new Google text ads?

There are a lot of features that I want to add to All Vegas Poker. The fact is that new features require new resources, and one of these required resources is money (to pay another programmer, research assistant, etc.)

Right now, All Vegas Poker pretty much pays for itself each month with its current advertising revenue. But, if the site is going to really grow, we’re going to have to figure out a way to raise a little more bling. Regrettably, my cash game poker skills aren’t going to cut it.

One way for a website to raise money is with advertising. There are other ways, but this is the most obvious way. The big problem with advertising is that, in my opinion, it can potentially cheapen the content of a website. Bad advertisements can devalue a website’s credibility. I don’t want any advertisements to devalue the great content or credibility of All Vegas Poker.

On the other hand, I believe that some advertisements can actually add value to the content of a website. Advertisements that are targeted to a particular audience can be really helpful. Readers can really benefit from what these targeted advertisements offer.

Some advertisements can add credibility too. For example, if you’re reading an automobile magazine and Ford, Mercedes, and BMW all advertise in it, then the magazine comes across as a more credible resource than if the advertisers are “Al the Mechanic”, and “Joe’s Used Tire Company.” This carries over to websites also.

Ideally, I would like to one day have the Ford’s and BMW’s of the poker world advertising on All Vegas Poker. In the meantime, we’re left with AdBrite, and Google Adsense.

The new advertisements on All Vegas Poker are supplied by Google Adsense. These are text link advertisements only (which I strongly prefer to graphical banner advertisements).

The big negative with Google Adsense is that I can’t pre-screen the advertisements shown. Consequentially, some rather “low quality” advertisers are appearing on All Vegas Poker. Because Adsense automatically selects the advertisements it shows based on a website’s content, I had no way of knowing what type of advertisements it would display until I installed it on All Vegas Poker. Obviously, some of the advertisements are unacceptable.

I also intentionally placed the Adsense links in some pretty tacky places on the website.
I’m going to leave Google Adsense online temporarily while I benchmark the revenue it generates. But, I don’t expect it to be a permanent fixture on All Vegas Poker.

What you can do to help All Vegas Poker is e-mail your thoughts, feedback, and suggestions for improving our advertising / revenue generating options.

How can we get the Ford’s and BMW’s of the poker business to advertise at All Vegas Poker, so that we can build credibility, improve our resources, and actually aid readers?

Also, who do you consider the Ford’s and BMW’s of poker? Who would you like to see advertise at All Vegas Poker?

Thank you for your support! (E-mail info@allvegaspoker.com)
