The time is here for the Hilton poker room. It is scheduled to open its doors on Friday September 2nd. To make sure the staff is ready for the poker room’s grand opening, I understand that a play-money poker tournament will be offered sometime this week. I know that Wynn did this the week before it opened, and Wynn had one of the smoothest poker room grand openings I’ve ever seen. I hope the Hilton grand opening goes just as smooth.
The Hilton poker room will be located in an actual room directly across from the buffet, near the sports book area. Early reports are that the room looks nice, and that the Hilton management definitely spent some money building a respectable poker environment.
The tables are covered until Friday, but they are rumored to all have auto shufflers.
The Hilton hopes to spread $2/4, $4/8, and $10/20 limit Hold’em, as well as $1/2 and $3/5 No Limit Hold’em. Of particular interest is that the Hilton is rumored to be serious about spreading Omaha, especially a $10/20 Omaha Hi/Lo game.
Frankly, I think the $10/20 games are very idealistic. I would love it if another poker room could consistently get games of this limit going, but when a room as busy as MGM has trouble getting the $10/20 games going, I have to think it would be difficult for the Hilton.
On the other hand, the Hilton has one huge advantage over every other poker room in Las Vegas: Convention Center Business. There are tons of business travelers who stay at the Hilton because of its prime location to the Las Vegas Convention Center. These convention visitors will no longer have to travel off-site to find a poker game, so the Hilton may realistically be able to get a $10/20 game going on weekends.
Comps at the new Hilton poker room will be $1 per hour.
All Vegas Poker will be at the grand opening this weekend, so please check back for a full review.
Also, thank you to all of the visitors who have contributed information about the new Hilton poker room.
