Joseph Hachem is the big winner of the $10,000 buy-in WSOP main event!
At 6:30 a.m. this morning, Joseph Hachem was still fighting it out with Steve Dannenmann to determine the 2005 World Series of Poker champion.
On the final hand, Hachem flopped a 7-high straight holding 7c, 3s. The turn brought an A, giving Steve Dannenmann top-pair. Both players eventually got all their chips in the pot. The river brought a 4c, which was of no help to Dannenmann, and Joseph Hachem who had Dannnmann covered, was declared the poker tournament winner.
Joseph Hachem, 39 years old, is from Melbourne, Australia. Most people are unfamiliar with Hachem, but the guy obviously knows how to play poker. In addition to winning the WSOP main-event, he also finished 10th place in the $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em WSOP event this year.
Three years ago, Hachem retired from a 13-year career in the chiropractic business to play poker full-time. After the winning hand, Hachem said, “A million dollars changes my life, let alone $7.5 million. It changes everything. I can look after my family, my mum, my kids.”
Throughout the final table, Hachem had a rowdy cheering-section of fans. Their cheers were unmistakable – take this one for example; “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!” These loyal Aussies were obviously very pleased with Hachem’s performance. After he won the final pot, he took a victory lap around the poker room, while his fan gallery cheered on!
For his effort, Hachem earned $7.5 million. Steve Dannenmann earned $4.25 million for second place.
Noteworthy: This was the last WSOP event that will ever be held at Binion’s. Harrah’s, which bought the rights to the WSOP last year, will probably keep future events, including the final table, at the Rio.
