News came through today that as of noon tomorrow, Harrah's will have 100% ownership of Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. Harrah's will also own the right to the Planet Hollywood name for other hotel/casino ventures.
Harrah's has controlled the hotel operations since January. The full ownership, including all hotel, casino, and food/beverage operations will go into effect at noon on friday.
Harrah's will be spending $8 million to upgrade the computer systems and integrate their own computer systems on the PH property. The current proprietary "A List" players card will be going away and replaced with the well known Harrah's Total Rewards system.
100 employees of PH are expected to get laid off quickly due to duplicate and unneeded positions that Harrah's already has filled. About 40 new employees are expected to be brought on in the transition.
For poker, expect to see a few things change.
1. Genesis Bravo will be installed in all tables and players will swipe using Total Rewards cards.
2. Automatic Shufflers are expected to get installed in at least a few tables.
3. Fifty cent pieces used for rake collection will be taken off the table.
4. More than likely, the caps on the straight flushes and royal flushes will be removed eventually.
