Many poker players inquire about what sort of comps are offered to the players. Comps vary greatly from casino to casino, and due to the fact that poker is not a house game (i.e. the players are playing each other as opposed to the house) poker comps tend to be pretty slim. Unlike pit players, where the casino has a significant interest in the game, poker makes money from the players based soley on the rake, so the comps are not nearly as generous as they are to pit players (i.e. free cigarettes, hotel rooms, VIP service, etc are rarely, if ever, granted to poker players as opposed to blackjack players).
However, many rooms do offer fairly generous comps to poker players, and here is a breakdown of where those comps are best found:
1. Imperial Palace: The IP offers the most generous comps in Las Vegas to poker players. Players earn $2 per hour for playing in live cash games. This money goes directly to the Harrahs Total rewards card, and can be used in ANY Harrahs property worldwide (no paper comp is required from the poker room). The $ per hour earned on the card can be used in any restaurant, gift shop, or can be applied directly to your hotel bill at any Harrahs property. This is, by far, the most generous poker comp offering in the city.
2. Binions: Binions, located in Downtown Las Vegas, also offers $2 per hour comps, which can be used in any restaurant or gift shop located in the Binions Hotel and Casino. Binions also offers a poker room rate for players staying in the hotel.
3. Treasure Island: TI gives $2 per hour in comps on the MGM Mirage players card. This comp can be used at any restaurant at TI or to purchase full price tickets to the Cirque show Mystere (but cannot be used in the gift shop or for the Spa). A paper comp generated from the poker room is required. TI also offers a poker room rate for guests staying in the hotel.
4. Stations Casinos: Stations, between the hours of 3AM and 9AM, offers players $3 per hour comps onm their Boarding Pass Players Card. The Stations comps can be used at any Stations property for any amenity offered (including the gift shop or restaurants). Outside of the specified hours, the comps are a standard $1 per hour.
5. Harrahs: Though Harrahs offers the standard $1 per hour comps to their players, they also extend this comp to tournament play in addition to regular cash games. Giving hourly comps for tournament play is very rare, and Harrahs is the only property that we are aware of that offers this. Much like IP, earned comp dollars go directly to the Harrahs Total Rewards card and can be redeemed in any Harrahs property.
Many rooms offer $1 per hour comps on their players card (MGM Grand, Caesars, Venetian, Wynn, Paris, Ballys, Flamingo).
Rooms that do not offer hourly comps on the players card include: Bellagio, Mirage, Planet Hollywood, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, and Luxor).
