The poker room at the Stardust closes permanently at 10:00 PM this Halloween night. I called the Stardust just to make sure, and the news was confirmed. The poker room will be sent to its grave tonight. The entire Stardust casino closes tomorrow morning. The hotel is booked solid tonight to bid farewell.
The Stardust hotel and casino is set to be imploded in the very near future to make room for Boyd Gaming’s $4 billion dollar Echelon Place project.
When I spoke to the manager at the Stardust poker room around 5:00 PM this evening, he confirmed that there were still four tables with action: two $3/6 limit games, and two No Limit games were going. He expected there to be at least one or two tables active until closing time at 10:00 PM.
On one hand I am sad to see the Stardust go. It was the second brick and mortar poker room that I ever played at, and during one summer it was practically my second home as I visited weekly. It has been several years since I have had the pleasure of a poker a session at the Stardust however. There are just too many higher quality poker rooms to visit in Las Vegas today. The poker market has changed, and the Stardust has been left behind.
So in some ways I am happy to see the Stardust go, because in its place will be another new mega casino, which will almost certainly include a spectacular new poker room. The never-ending cycle of death and re-birth of iconic Las Vegas casinos is one of the things that make this city special. Las Vegas is not afraid to reinvent itself.
Stardust will be the first poker room that has closed its doors since All Vegas Poker began nearly two and a half years ago.
If you live in Las Vegas, and have time this evening, you might stop by for one last look at the Stardust poker room.
R.I.P. Stardust Poker Room.
