Summary: Jamie Gold, a television producer from Malibu, CA (my former hood) won the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) shortly before 4:00 AM this morning. Jamie beat Paul Wasicka to win the 2006 WSOP bracelet. Jamie Gold will also take home $12 million in cash, the largest WSOP prize in the history of the legendary poker tournament.
Content: I watched the last five players at the final table play live on ESPN’s pay-per-view coverage of the 2006 WSOP. Jamie Gold was the dominant chip leader throughout the final table of the Main Event. This meant that when Jamie was involved in a hand there was never a threat of him going home. In other words, there wasn’t much drama. There were no all-in moments for Jamie Gold at the final table of the 2006 WSOP. In fact, according to a post-win interview with Jamie, his only all-in moment(s) came on the first day of the poker tournament. I have to wonder how well this main event will playback on ESPN.
Jamie was a true monster at the final table. His chip stack was intimidating, and he played his arsenal well. He also frequently engaged in friendly banter with his opponents. In the final hand, heads up with Paul Wasicka, Jamie Gold really used his bantering skills to induce Paul to make a bad call.
Congratulations Jamie! Enjoy your victory.
