Caesars Palace Poker Room: Your Questions Answered.

Summary: Here are the answers to the most popular questions I received for Michael Matts, the poker room manager at the highly anticipated Caesars Palace poker room.

Date: 12/14/05
Subject: Caesars Palace

Last week I informed you that I would be taking a tour (read the details) of the new poker room at Caesars Palace, and interviewing its manager, Michael Matts. To prepare for the interview, I asked you to submit questions via e-mail. I received more than 25 e-mails in response. The questions primarily came down to the following:

Will there be a poker room rate? What will it be?

Yes. $119 per night weekdays, $199 per night weekends. 8 hours per day of live play required to qualify for special poker room rate. Hours will be tracked on player card.

What comps will be offered?

$1 per hour of live cash play is offered. Comps can be redeemed for table side food service (at special poker player pricing). Hours will be tracked on player card.

What limits for Texas Hold’em cash games will be spread?

At the lower end Caesars Palace is expected to spread $3/6, $6/12, and $10/20. The next step up will either be $20/40 or $30/60.

Will Limit Hold’em poker tournaments be offered?

Yes. The preliminary poker tournament schedule shows four Limit Hold’em events per week. Buy-ins for the limit tournaments range from $60 to $120. The exact schedule is subject to change, but you can bet there will be limit poker tournaments available.

Will Omaha tournaments be offered?

Yes. At the moment there is one Omaha High tournament scheduled for Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. The published buy-in is $120.

Will Omaha or Stud cash games be spread regularly?

Yes. Several Stud tables were ordered and management wants to get regular Omaha and Stud games going. Obviously, this depends on the market for those games. At the moment, it is very difficult to get these games going consistently in Las Vegas. But if any poker room can do it, Caesars Palace can.

What is management at Caesars Palace doing to prevent the poker room from turning into a low limit Hold’em orgy?

When I posed this exact question to management I received a three-part answer.

1. Caesars Palace wants to be THE poker room in Las Vegas for poker tournaments. The abundance of poker tournaments it offers, which range from low $60 buy-in events to upper level $530 buy-in events, will attract a lot of poker players who are comfortable playing at all levels.

2. Caesars Palace is owned by Harrah’s, which owns the World Series of Poker (WSOP). This relationship gives Caesars a tremendous marketing advantage over its competitors.

3. Caesars Palace attracts an upper level clientele. It is among the nicest (and most expensive) hotels in Las Vegas. Its guests can afford to play higher than $4/8 limit poker if they choose.

If you have any other questions for Michael regarding the poker room at Caesars Palace please send me an e-mail at info@allvegaspoker.com.

I will be publishing the complete poker tournament schedule shortly, along with exclusive early photographs of the poker room.
