Over the past few days several e-mails have reached my inbox with one question - “Is New York New York (NYNY) in Las Vegas opening a poker room?” – Good question.
It seems logical. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see New York New York open a poker room soon. This casino is one of the last remaining Las Vegas casinos without a poker room, and management can’t continue to ignore the demand for the game.
I spoke with representatives from the public relations department at NYNY. The representatives I spoke with denied plans to open a poker room at this time. They reminded me that the MGM Grand, a sister property located right across the street, recently opened a poker room. Evidently guests are routinely advised to head over there for poker action.
I wasn’t satisfied with this answer. I’m a diligent researcher, and so last week I went down to New York New York to dig up some dirt in person. A security guard roaming around the casino was more helpful. The security guard shared with me that he had heard a poker room was in the works, but that he couldn’t tell me where exactly inside the casino it would be located or when it would open.
While I was there I did notice that New York New York is having a $50,000.00 poker tournament this weekend. About a dozen poker tables were setup inside the casino for this special event, but I was told by several employees the poker tables were only temporary.
So, is New York New York planning to open a poker room soon? It looks likely, but it is not confirmed.
