Summary: Representatives from The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino invited All Vegas Poker to a meeting last week where they revealed lots of details about the upcoming Venetian poker room. I was impressed by what I learned.
Content: Last week representatives from The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino contacted All Vegas Poker to arrange a meeting. The point of the meeting was to discuss details of The Venetian’s highly anticipated new poker room. When representatives of a classy joint like The Venetian extend such an invitation, you don’t waste any time accepting it.
I met with two representatives of The Venetian on Friday, and below is the short version of the facts that they shared with me.
Opening: March 2006 (tentative)
Size: 10,000 square feet
Tables: 40 +
Poker Director: Edna Dalton (formerly at The Aladdin poker room)
Private Gaming Area (two tables, similar to Bobby’s room at Bellagio)
Computerized List Management System
Now for the long version. The Venetian is taking this poker thing seriously.
The Venetian is sparing no expense with its upcoming poker room. During the course of our one-hour meeting, I got a real sense that The Venetian wants to compete with the big boys.
As I was ushered into a conference room, not far from the casino floor, the first thing one of The Venetian representatives pointed out were the illustrations hanging on the wall.
These were high quality, detailed artist renderings of The Venetian’s poker room floorplan. These drawings showed the proposed layout of the entire poker room, including the placement of each poker table.
From these illustrations, it was immediately obvious that The Venetian is investing some big-time money in its poker room. Unlike at some Las Vegas casinos, The Venetian is definitely not planning to just drop a few poker tables between the craps table and the blackjack pit and call it a day.
The next thing The Venetian representatives shared is that Edna Dalton was recently hired to run the upcoming poker room. Good decision. Edna was formerly at The Aladdin, where she supervised its well regarded Las Vegas poker room (Aladdin is currently ranked as the 6th best poker room in Las Vegas by users of All Vegas Poker). Edna is a seasoned poker room operator, and with the resources that The Venetian is allocating to this project she should do a terrific job.
I was surprised at the size of the proposed poker room. With approximately 10,000 square feet, and more than 40 tables, The Venetian poker room will rank among the largest poker rooms in Las Vegas.
I really got a feel for the size of the planned Venetian poker room when I walked through the hard hat area where the poker room is currently under construction. Located at the front of the casino, near the escalators and the valet entrance, the poker room will occupy space formerly used for slot machines. It will be an actual "room", with real walls and high ceilings. It will also have a long pony-wall which should be an excellent perch for railbirds (and hopefully attract a lot of novice poker players). I expect an intimate poker playing environment.
Overall I was very impressed with the people I met at The Venetian, and their plans to build a top notch poker room. I expect a high quality poker room, on par with the best poker rooms in Las Vegas, including Bellagio and Wynn.
