Is Club Fortune really going to put in an actual room? Like with it's own wall(s) and everything like that? I might check it out in May. Snap a pic of the new digs and post it if you get a chance.

Yes, It's in the back of the new bar area. In it's own little room, I'll take a picture of what the room looks like so far.

I see Club Fortune has splurged on a three-quarter page advertisement announcing their new poker room in the edition of Poker Player Magazine that just appeared in local casinos, probably blowing the whole casino's marketing budget for the decade. It includes a photo of the new room looking nicer than about half a dozen rooms on the Strip that I can think of. It says they'll have a three dollar max rake, and it mentions high hand bonuses and stuff like that, so I assume they'll also be taking an extra promotional drop now. It also says it is a non-smoking poker room, so I suppose that will probably chase away most of the folks who played there when it was a couple of tables of 3/6 with overs, scrunched in the pit next to a bank of slots, with ashtrays on the table.

I made a mistake in my description of the Poker Player advertisement for the new room. I have it in front of me now, and it doesn't say three dollar max rake. It doesn't say anything about the rake. I don't know where I got that idea.

Las Vegas Sun just did an article on Club Fortune. The associated slide show has a couple shots of the poker room----tiny, of course, but nice looking.

Even if you are a visitor or local with no intention of frequenting the place, the article is an interesting read. The little place is apparently doing well in these tough economic times:

Wednesday night I visited Club Fortune for the first time since they moved the poker tables out of the pit and gave poker it's own room at the back of the casino. The space they built for it is much nicer than you might guess for a little out of the way place on the edge of town. In fact it is really a pretty attractive little room now, more so than many of the lesser poker rooms on the Strip. For those not familiar with the location, it's in the far southeast side of the Las Vegas valley in the older working class area of the suburb of Henderson just off Boulder Highway, and if you went further out Boulder through Henderson for a few more minutes you'd either be about to enter Arizona or on your way down to Laughlin.

The room has four new tables, and new chairs. One that gets the most regular use has an autoshuffler, and the other three don't. The room is fully enclosed on three sides, and partially enclosed on the remaining side facing the casino floor. They have five new big screen TVs mounted on the walls of the room, giving them more screens for watching sports than poker tables, and I think more than the tiny little sportsbook at the front of the casino. I didn't notice cocktail service. The player list seemed to be handled the old fashioned way, with pen and paper. They did take my call-in (phone 702.566.5555, select 0 for “casino cage” and ask to be connected to the poker room) for the cash game. Comps are the basic standard buck an hour. They use the casino player card to log in at the desk for them, but I think it's just to get the card number to write it down to credit the points into the player's account. I got myself a free genuine spiffy Club Fortune t-shirt and deck of cards for signing up for the card.

The regular house game is 3/6 LHE with a half kill, except on Thursdays when I'm told they have a weekly 7 card stud game 2-10 spread limit with a $0.50 ante, starting regularly at 6 pm. The rake for all their cash games is 10% capped at $3 for the house, plus a $1 promotional drop. I'm told their cash game regularly gets going at about 6 pm on weekdays. I doubt they ever get a red chip game; it's not that kind of crowd. I played 3/6 there for less than an hour as I was on my way home, but I found the game friendly and sociable, with two competent players and several amiable passive donators.

I have their tournament information sheet in front of me, and it says:

Sunday afternoon 4PM no-limit Texas Hold 'em 1 hour chipleader take all tournament!

  • Signups begin 2 hours prior to the start of a tournament. Calling in for a seat is not allowed.

  • $28 buy-in gets you 10,000 in tournament chips. $5 goes to the house, $3 goes to the dealers, and $20 goes to the prize pool.

  • Blinds will be 100-200 and remain the same throughout the hour. After 60 minutes the chip leader will be determined the winner and will receive 100% of the prize pool.

  • We will limit the tournament to 3 tables with the maximum of 11 players per table. Alternates will NOT be allowed. Late entries will be allowed for the first 5 minutes only.

I see they have other small buy-in tourneys besides the one I posted above. From their flyer:

CLUB FORTUNE'S NO-LIMIT TEXAS HOLD 'EM TOURNAMENT

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 6:00 PM. Saturday at 4:00 PM. Signups begin 2 hours prior to the start of a tournament. Calling in for a seat is not allowed.

  • $35 buy-in gets you 3000 in tournament chips. $5 Dealer Appreciation add-on gets you 500 extra in tournament chips. $30 goes to prize pool.

  • Blinds start out at 25-50 and double every 15 minutes when blinds are 100-200 we color up yellow (25) to grey (100) and get yellow chips off the table. After the first break the blinds will be 400-800, the next level will be 500-1000 at which time wee will color up grey (100) to pink (500) eliminating the grey chips and at the 1000-2000 level we eliminate the pink (500) coloring up to white (1000).

  • 1st place 50% of prize pool

  • 2nd place 30% of prize pool

  • 3rd place 20% of prize pool

  • We will limit the tournament to 3 tables with the maximum of 11 players per table. Alternates will be allowed in for the first half hour. If you bust out you can get on the alternate list and rejoin the tournament as a new player as long as it is within the time limit.

Re: Club Fortune Poker Room

I've been back to play a little more 3/6 in this room, and enjoyed it. I also just got a postcard mailer from them, which among other things (such as high hand and cash drawing promotions and a few extra chips for bringing in the postcard and low rake) also includes an announcement of a "Casino Employee Chip Special" that might interest some folks who read this site. The description of the "Casino Employee Special" says: "Buy-in for $50 and receive $60 on Fridays and Saturdays."

I also learned they may be making (or may have already made) some adjustments to the tournaments that I listed in the previous two posts which they feel are further improvements making them more attractive in comparison to many other small buy-in events. I'm not a tournament player at all, and really wouldn't know a good one if it bit me, so I won't try to further describe what they are doing to tweak them other than to mention that if you see any different information in the future about them it is probably more up to date, and to suggest contacting them directly if you are interested in more info.

It also appears they are trying to promote a NL game on Saturdays at 6pm, in addition to their existing regular daily 3/6 and Thursday night 7-card Stud.

The folks running the room expressed an interest in participating here to provide information and answer questions about their nice new room, and hopefully they'll be doing that when they have time.

had any dealers been nice enough to tell me about the existence of this stud game, id have offered them a $5 tip and then went to check it out some thursday nite, but no one on AVP ever told me, and im sure some of my readers had read this. i doubt it will still exist by the time i have enough to come back.

Tony, even if you had known about this game, I strongly doubt you would have played in it. You would have just kept making excuses about it being too far away and having no transportation to get there.

Plus he could not afford to play this game. its pretty hard to play a $2-$10 stud game on a $50 buy in

Plus, there are approximately 87,429,314 slot machines between the Pair-A-Dice motel and Club Fortune, give or take.
