I love playing at Binion's, still. Like a museum where you can feel the ghosts of times passed. There are usually some very good games here. Even some occasionally middle-stakes games. I've made some money here, as opposed to most places downtown where the limits are low and the rakes take too much off the table. Lots of tourists who think they are playing where the WSOP used to be played, and often ask how many chips can they bet now?

Played at Binions several times, but when downtown, I must admit that I tend to lean toward the Nugget or the Plaza.
Binions is a classic old place, and for strict hostorical value, no one can top it, however, much like the Mirage of late, people (and action) seem to be moving on.
However, nowhere else downtown can touch their tournaments. Best of downtown, by far.

Daughter & I played at the same 2-4 limit game for her B-day back in June. Dealers were among the most friendly we had on our trip. Daughter got a kick out of seeing the wall of fame. Yes, the room is tired but we enjoyed ourselves.
Read on a poker blog that Binion's appears to be doing some remodeling.
New carpet (the blog had a photo of it) and new track lighting. It is now hosting the UPC tournaments also.
Anyone checked this out? Also, any indication they have worked on the hotel rooms a bit also? Looks like they have a good room rate--if the rooms are decent.
Just speculating from the distance, but it appears Golden Nugget is the best room downtown, followed by Fitzgerald's and Binion's, with Plaza holding on. Would that be a fair assessment?

The carpet changing was ineveitible, as it was horseshoe laden. It was the last horseshoe image in the place.
Though your assessment of the rooms is accurate, it is not what I would consider a pecking order of which rooms to go to, as Fitz has trouble keeping even one game going a lot of the time.
As far as action, the Nugget and Binions are pretty much neck and neck as far as action, with Plaza being third.
The Nugget is the nicest room downtown (in fact it is one of the aesthetically nicest rooms in Vegas), but is rather cramped.

Staying at the El Cortez in December for a few nights. I can't wait to play in Binion's and the other classics. I also can't wait to take down some other games as well.

I have been to Binion's twice to play and both time the highest limit game going was 4/8. Has anyone ever played in the 10/20 game there? What time does it get going? I was there on a Friday afternoon and nothing.

When I visited about a month ago, I asked about limits (10/20 specifically) and the floor said it rarely runs. Binion's is such a sad place to be in, it's a shame it turned out the way it has.

I played 2/4 for most of an afternoon about a year and a half ago just so I could say I played at the legendary Binions. I don't believe they ever got more than three tables going on a Sunday, maxed at 4/8, and it just felt like all the life had been drained out of the place. I think the youngest employee was around 70 years old, 80 for the cocktail waitreses who came by maybe twice the entire time I was there. When players complained about the drink service the dealer replied with what was obviously a well-used line "Hey, we promise same-day service!" I don't see a reason to return on a future trip.
