Damn, just was called and told I wasn't needed at work tonight. Too many dealers scheduled and of course I have the most hours. If I had known earlier I would of jumped at the shot at giving the Wynn tournament a try today. They started a $25K guarantee today and will have it every Saturday. It was one of those on my ten event list.
So debating on which event will be number three tomorrow....either the $5K guarantee at Binions, another Aria 1pm, or the Bellagio $330 buyin. The Bellagio looks interesting, as I rarely play in there, maybe 4 times in the 8 years I have lived here. Just wondering how different the game is vs. The avg Joe playing in something like the Binions $100 tournament. I'll decide by the morning which one to give a try....

Had a good suggestion to hold off on playing the Bellagio tournament till September just due to the nature of slow business in August. So planning on heading to Fremont Street and the Binions $5K guarantee at 2pm. As usual, updates during the breaks....

My initial run at Binions started quietly. Card dead fur a bit but was gaining reads hoping to out them to use later. We started the table 7-handed and added another player about 40 invites in. He immediately wanted all to know that he was playing a wide range. This was shown by him calling all the way down with ace deuce off suit against strong betting all the way with an ace on the board. He got rewarded when he won with that horrible kicker. Right before the first break I finally wake up in middle position with pocket queens. I do a standard raise, he paused and then reraised. I put him on ace king or worse, hopefully an under pair. So I reraised him, enough to obligate me to cal his shove. Of course GE turns over pocket aces and I'm out the door.
Thought about it on the way out to my jeep, and as I got in I realized I hadn't got my parking validated. Decided on the way back in to re enter, so basically this one is still part of the staking but the first buy in is on me....consider it a staking bonus. Lol
Looks like about 90 players. Hopefully better updates to follow.

Well the Binions tournament was a quick one, even with the second buyin. Overall it was as expected, a lot of Joe Average players giving poker a try, over 80 players. I was disappointed in my overall play and patience. My first bustout has already been described via my post from my iPad while at Binions. After I rebought I got seated at another table. First hand in the big blind I call a raise (1600) with Ac-10c. The raiser was in late position. I check dark and the flop came 10h-7c-3c…not too bad. The late position bet out about half the pot, 2000, and I 3x'd her bet to 6000. She thought about it and called. The turn brought a red Queen, and I bet another 2000 and she just flat called….was wondering if she had flopped a set. The river missed my flush draw and I bet another 2000 and she just called, sheepishly turning over Qs-7s for 2 pair. Already over half my chips gone in the first hand back. Sat and stewed a bit, and our table broke. The redraw brought me to a new table and new hope to rebound some. Re-raised a player that raised under the gun with my pocket Queens. He laid down so I gained some chips and got myself up to about 15K. Got a bit card dead, which seemed to be a theme for the afternoon. Continued to watch players call raises and win with any face card (K-5, Q-8, etc…). Blinds brought me down to about 12K (levels of 400/800). UTG I min raised to 1600 with pocket deuces. One caller came along in late position. The flop was beautiful, 2-A-10 rainbow. I was hoping he played his ace anything so I bet out 3000. He thinks for a second and calls. The turn was a 7, I'm already almost half in and figure if he has an ace he will call me so I shove. He pauses and then calls, turning over J-Q off suit. He gets rewarded with his four outer, a King on the river….nice call sir, almost half your chips in with J-Q off suit.
So, horrible players constantly getting rewarded. The starting stack of 20000 didn't really matter as the play was loose right away, even at the 25/50 level. Really wasn't impressed by the other players and felt like it was one of the low buy in tournaments in town. That could just be the pissed off part of me over the beats I took today. One humorous note was some of the dealers are pure rookies, hired thru an outside agency and employed on a daily basis by Binions (they wear the white shirts, the regular dealers wear Binions shirts. One of the "white shirts" sat down, obviously a bit nervous. The blinds were at 50/100 and we had 4 players to the flop. The first player bet out one pink chip (500). The dealer proudly announced that it was a call of 100 since the player had not stated the bet….huh?? We all corrected her and I followed up with explaining that a oversize chip bet pre flop or after a bet is just a call….I don't know if she quite understood so she's got a way to go in dealing….
I might play another event on Thursday, all depends on my friends arrival time. Kind of doubt I'll be back to play Binions again….way too much poker roulette….

Binions was a good selection. You just got unlucky on the 4 outer. You want him to play like that and you want to play against others who play like that. You just need to run better.

That was a tough one and I agree with Vook's comments above. I witnessed some play and luck run last week during my visit similar to how you saw things at Binion's. ( I'll get a TR done soon. ) Funny story about the dealer - maybe they should be wearing green shirts?
