Was looking for a game but didn't want to drive the whole way to the strip, Called around to the locals and Sunset had a 1/3NL game going.
Made my way out there and played from 11:30 till 4am.
Was mostly full till 2:30 or so, then it dropped to 7 handed because a few busted out.
The guy with the most chips was complaining that it was too short handed to make any money and decided to leave.
A few hands later it was down to 5. We actually kept playing until it would have went heads up at which point I didn't want to continue.
Lot of fun, but it seems to be very dominated by locals.
They comp you 600 points/hour on your card (which works out to $1/hour).
They have a monthly free roll, and to get into it the qualifier is to have one of the top 3 hands of the day. Was told that top prize usually pays out about $800 or so...
Looks like they are moving the room to a different area of the casino, more central. It's an area with rails and they have a diagram of 7 tables laid out on the floor with masking tape and a sign that says Coming Soon: New Poker Room.
Visited on a mid-week evening so it wasn't the busiest place ever but the 4/8 game exceeded my expectations.
Does the 1/2 preflop blind increase or reduce variance? I haven't thought about it much but I felt far more in control of hands that I took down to the river because of the increased bet size relative to the blinds. On the other hand, the structure encourages players to reduce their calling requirements leading to a reduction in percentage equity (but hopefully an increase in profit).

Updated the tournament schedule for Sunset.
Played there a couple of weeks ago on an EA. The 1/2 was a pretty good game, mainly because there were two drunk tourists there feeding the game. Not sure it would normally be as good as it was.
The 4/8 with 1/2 blinds was going on the other table. Raises go to $6, and the next one goes to $10.
