Ok, I had to go do some grocery shopping and bank stuff today. Thankfully, there is a branch at the store accross the street, so I get a 2-fer when I go and get it all done in the same day. Ok, you all know how stores are set up where they have one set (usually 2) automatic opening doors, the type that swing inwards. Then after that, there is the alcove where the carts go, then another set to get inside. Well my bank branch is imediately inside the second set.

So here's the story. Whenever anyone is done with the bank, they just go back out the same doors they came in. And MOST people know they swing inwards, so pull on the handle towards you to open them manually. While I'm standing in line, I see 1 person walk up to the door and wait for it to open so they can leave. (sensor is on the outside). This woman stands there and watches someone walk up from the outside and the door swings in and hits her. She's got the "WTF" look on her face like it wasnt' supposed to happen. There is a sign that says "Caution, Automatic Entry". Her response was "I didn't know it would open THAT way".

I just wanted to say...Here's your sign! (in my best Bill Engval voice)

Not 30 seconds later a guy that just came in the doors seemed to have forgotten something, turned around to go back out. He does the SAME THING! Stands there, nothing. Then he pushes outwards on the first door but it barely moves (cuz it goes inwards, not out). Then he starts with the other door. "GDI, wtf is with these doors they won't open" he says. He finally puts his shoulder into it and keeps pushing it till there is just slightly enough room for him to squeeze through. As soon as he's halfway through, he gets in front of the sensor and it swings back through and gets his foot caught. "This [CENSORED] place sucks!" comes out of his mouth and he storms off.

By now I'm just laughing my ass off and wondering wtf is going to happen next. The intelligence I see in this town just baffles me.

One of my pet projects is to write a book (or maybe a blog) called "people are stupid". It's a collection of true stories showing an incredible lack of common sense and basic literacy and math skills a 5th grader should have.

People and doors are a great example. I didn't think "PUSH" and "PULL" were complicated words.

I work at a well known copy, print and ship center. We'll call it Popcopy. Anyway, a customer came in to print something from online. I told her where the computers were and she said she needed help. After logging on I told her to click on the internet explorer icon. She proceeded to try and click the icon with her finger. I said no, you have to use the mouse. "The What? " is what she replied. I said the little contraption right by your right hand. She then picked up the mouse and started tapping the mouse on the computer monitor. I said I give up and told her to go to the library. I am amazed on a daily basis how simple technology is lost on most people.

in college i worked at a small airport that had doors that swung in but had sensors on both sides. if you were leaving they swung towards you. if there were a lot of people in the lobby i would often kick the door as it opened and say "oww" in a loud voice as i was leaving. it was always good for a few laughs. my co-workers would fill me in on the reactions when i came back in.

The only thing that could have possibly made this any funnier - If he had managed to BREAK the door and be forced top pay for it's repair. While cursing the door. Oh, yeah, a severely damaged foot. Schadenfreude, sorry.

About a year back, I was at the grocery store, and a woman with two kids was almost in tears, her remote wasn't opening the car door and she was punching and punching the button. She was honest to god about to call a locksmith, and I told her I could probably open the door. I took the key on the same chain as the remote, and strange to say, the door opened for me as if by magic. She wasn't even ashamed.........nor did she say thanks.

I gotta remember, it isn't just the poker tables that are full of people who are alive thenks to a 10% hit.
