The World Series of Poker is upon us once again! While some people are on bracelet hunts this summer, other players are more concerned in finding the best tournament for their money while they are visiting Las Vegas. In this article I'm going to outline the tournaments offered this summer and in my opinion I'll try to describe which ones you can find the best value in.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering on the side tournaments at the Rio? They have a deepstack tournament in the mornings and I haven't heard much about them other than cost. I'm staying there in a few weeks for a vacation and was interested. otherwise I will look in to some of the ones you mention..Excellent article..

from what I noticed, the Golden Nugget's tournament Circuit also has some AWESOME structures for the price it is providing to the players. Many of the tournaments have 40 min blind levels with 8-10k starting stacks and gradual raises in blinds. I was very impressed by this and still able to play good poker when regularly a low buyin tournament has a "Crap shoot" styled structure.

it depends what you define as value. If you are only looking at the juice relative to the cost it is bad value. however, if you are taking into account other considerations of value as Benton laid out below then it is good value.
"They give you a lot of chips, deep stacked play, and still benefit from foot traffic from strip passer-bys. The prize pools aren't huge but there is often a lot of dead money in these events, and the player pool of very good players is limited as most of them are playing at the Rio or at the Venetian. Bottom line here is that if you are looking for a lot of play, low buy ins, and decent prize pools generated from tourists and weak players, Caesars may be your spot this summer."

Yeah, as I mention the lower buy in tourneys have a ton of juice which makes them unprofitable long term, but I meant value as in chips for buy in (structure) and the ratio of good players vs fish. I think the tourney has value in a vacuum but long term the juice is a killer.

Thanks Benton! Perfect article for me since I'm headed into town this weekend (6/30-7/3) and was looking for a tourney beyond that of the dailies. Caesars MegaStack is currently the leader in the clubhouse....
The one other non-value aspect of these larger deepstacked events is the time committment, at least for us visitors. I'm traveling with 5 other non- poker players, including the wife, and spending a 12 hour stretch in one of these tourneys (should I be lucky enough to go that far) considering the relatively short time we are in town may not go over too well....
As an FYI, the $235 Daily Deepstack events at the Rio have been drawing 1200+ players and are averaging a first place prize of nearly $60k! Sickness. Just food for thought.
