Wait, they serve alcohol in the French Quarter?!?! I had no idea...
Glad you'll get a chance to relax a bit and congratulations on the record-breaking season (that's not even over yet!) Keep it going.

Confirmed....the rumors are true, alcohol is available in the French quarter, although its really discreet and you must look around very hard to find it ;-).

Off to a decent start here in Nola. After finding out I broke the circuit record with 15 cashes this season, I decided to add in 2 more for good measure, now bringing my total up to 17!

I came back for day 2 of event 1 and managed my short stack through the bubble. I had 37k returning on day 2, so my goal was to maintain my stack while looking for spots to accumulate chips and/or double up. Since we were returning just 30-40 hands away from the money, I had planned to pick my spots and try not to gamble until after the money. That's exactly what I did, and I made it through the money bubble with my shortstack, but maintained my stack at the same level I started the day with. Finally I open jammed KJo in a standard spot, but the BB woke up to AK and held up. Still I was able to get through the bubble and pick up a small cash which is always nice.

After I got knocked out of event 1, I went right over and registered for ring event #3, $355 PLO. I love playing PLO, and I always get really excited when I get the chance to play a PLO ring event. I've had a lot of success in live PLO tournaments this year, cashing in 4 of 6 that I've played so far this year now, with 2 final tables! I'm really looking forward to playing the PLO bracelet events this summer.

The PLO went really well for me. I played my usual tight conservative game, and basically hovered around starting stack the first 2 hours, until I got a full double up. I got my chips in holding QJ109sssx(spade, spade, spade, x) v QJ67 on a board of 10 8 5 3 with 2 spades. I was holding top pair, a flush draw, and a wrap. Meanwhile my opponent was in about as bad of shape as he possibly could be, holding just 3 outs to win outright, plus some chop outs. A blank came on the river and I doubled up.

When we re-drew for seats at 27 players I had about 55-60k and was right around average. Things were going well and I felt like I had a great shot at a ring. But when we got down to around 23 players I made a mistake. I called a pot sized raise in position with 6789 double suited. I sometimes re-pot here in position to balance my range so that I'm not only re-potting with AAxx like most players do deep in these events, but villain has me way covered and we are close to the bubble(paying 20). If villain was shorter stacked I might have gone ahead and re-potted near the bubble since my hand plays really well should I actually run into AAxx or KKxx(the hands I'm repping). But I decide to just call in position and see a flop. The flop comes KQ4, a total brick for me. Villain checks it to me. I felt like his check was a little suspicious here, but convinced myself that there was a decent chance that he had a rundown type hand like me and was just giving up. Since I have no showdown value, and no draws, there really is not much value in seeing a free turn card. Sure I have some backdoor draws, but nothing too exciting. So I decide to bet right into the trap. Villain snap re-pots on me and I fold away a big chunk of my stack. He shows me top set. Oops.

From there things kept going downhill. The same guy won 2 more medium sized pots off of me and left me pretty much crippled right when we got down to hand for hand on the bubble. There were 3 micro stacks in the tournament still, so I made the decision to wait them out unless I picked up a big hand, since I think it's horrible for me to gamble with my shortstack when I'm pretty much guaranteed making the money if I just play extra tight for the next orbit or 2. Once the bubble burst I couldn't find a hand to run with, and wound up bagging a pretty short stack for day 2.

I returned today and wound up getting it in against the other shortstack at my table on the very first hand. I was holding the AQJ10hhhx v. 8653 rainbow. I'm obviously a favorite here, but not a very big favorite since we are both starting without a pair. He drilled the flop when it came 679 with one heart giving him a straight. I had a gutshot plus some backdoor possibilities. The turn was really fun, putting the Kh on the board, which now gave me a wrap and a flush draw. I needed a Q, J, 10, 7, or heart to double up, just about half the deck! Unfortunately I had a few too many outs because I couldn't connect and was eliminated in 18th place.

I was still proud to make the money in each of the first 2 events I've played so far here in Nola, extending my single season record number of cashes to 17! Second place this year has only 12, so I'm pretty much a lock to lead the circuit in total cashes this year. I'd still rather have a ring, but I'm proud to have the record for consistency. I've now cashed in 3 straight events dating back to Chester when I final tabled the last event I played there. I'll be back in action tomorrow at noon looking for my 4th straight cash, and hopefully that elusive first ring too!

Just bagged up 98.5k in event 5 at the WSOP Circuit event in New Orleans!!! 40 players remain out of 440, and I am almost exactly at chip average for day 2. We are already in the money(45 paid). This ties my career high with 4 consecutive in the money finishes, and is now my 18th cash this season on the WSOP Circuit! I really feel like this is the one. I want the ring so bad, and I'm playing the best poker of my life right now. It would really be great to go in there and close this one out so that I can fly back home to Vegas with a WSOP ring on my finger to match the WSOP bracelet I plan on winning this summer :-).

I restart at 2PM Central time, and as always will post regular updates on twitter @sdaviespoker.
