All,
This is straight from my player rep at Lock. It appears to be good news in general for all online poker players. Personally, I'm a little concerned about how it impacts me in general (i'll post in my own blog about that), but I am very confident this will be a great step for the US online poker population in general.
For those that have had issues with Cake in the past, don't worry, Lock will be running the show, not Cake. Cake is stepping aside for us and we will be making all of the final decisions. Some people are freaking out, which seems to be the standard post Black Friday, but this is news is a good thing. Merge has held us back on many levels during our team here. There's a lot of things we would have liked to change, but everything had to be approved by Merge. Well, convincing Merge to change is like pulling teeth. Among other things, Merge has limited our ability to offer VIP benefits & rakeback, limited our ability to offer the structures and software the players want, and more recently, limited our ability to offer our own tournament series in LOCKOPS.
All of this is about to change. When we run our own network we will be calling the shots on everything.
As the article says, we will be taking our cashier with us, so there's nothing to worry about in regards to withdrawing and depositing. It will be an easy transition, with a simple uninstall and re-install.
We will be bringing back rakeback at a rate of 36%, meaning that no player should earn less than 36% rakeback. We will also have a better VIP program, with the top level earning 55%. We will also be running monthly rake races. To help promote the launch of the network, we will be running a $1 million rake race. That's not a typo. More details should be released on these matters in the coming weeks.
Some of you may be concerned with traffic on the new network. I'm not. While both Merge and Lock traffic may see an initial dip, I expect our new network to be about the size of Merge when we launch. Lock represents a much larger percentage of Merge than most of you think. In time, I think you will see a lot of players from other Merge skins move over to the Merge network. With better withdraws, better VIP benefits, better structures, and better software the choice should be easy to make.
The new network is expected to launch on June 1st. If you have any friends who want to move over to Lock, please have them sign up through my link: http://refer.lockpoker.com/jaredhubbard/
I recently contacted some of you about what SNG structures you would like to see. I couldn't say it at the time, but I was looking for suggestions for the new Lock network Revolution Gaming. I am part of a team of Lock Pros that is in charge of the tournament structures and schedule. I am more in charge of SNGs, but I can take suggestions for any games. As far as SNGs, I have recommended the following changes: -Change 6 man and HU hyper turbo structures to Pokerstars/FTP structures -Add 9 man hyper turbos with Stars/FTP structure -Remove Cake shortstack structure -Remove Cake's current hyper turbo structure -Change DON structure to 50/50 -6 man prize payouts will be 65/35, as opposed to 70/30 on Merge
I would expect to see most/all of these changes when the new network launches.
I am kind of torn between whether to keep Cake's current super turbo structure (1500 starting chips, 10/20 blinds, 2 minute levels). Regardless, we will have a Stars/FTP hyper turbo structure addition. If players play multiple tables and play both structures, it could help get more tables going. However, if people mostly choose 1 structure or the other, it could make tables fill at a slower rate. Offering both super turbo structures, along with turbo and regular turbo structures, seemed to work well on Cereus. However, that doesn't mean it will work well on the new network. I would like to hear more input on this.
Our ceiling for growth was very limited at Merge. Starting our own network is an exciting opportunity, and I expect that all of you will be very happy with the changes over time.

Unfort I won't be back down for the WSOP. Next trip(s) will just be weekend trips as I hate being gone from the family so long (and the kids hate it to). Maybe in the Fall. I'd like to time it with an AVP meet.

I think you've answered your own question. I have a certain fondness for Cake, but they haven't really seemed to know what was going on since their inception. It's difficult to see how the Lock takeover will put Cake players in a worse position, at least when it comes to timely delivery of information (and cash outs).

Yeah. I think that's a good answer. Cake will maintain it's status quo. You'll have the option of setting up a new account on Lock. If I hear new info I'll post

so I did get some verification. Cake will call the shot on their own player base. They will share software and players. If you don't have a good rakeback deal with Cake you should consider depositing on Lock after June 1st. It sounds like I will need to get used to Cake software. I hope they have a less busy version like Merge's mini screen.

That may not be pleasant. I'm too old to be puter savvy, but as I understand it the way the "previous hand" feature and related stuff works is to basically cache stuff like a browser. So if you've got a browser open and you're multi-tabling and you bring up a previous hand your machine's virtual memory gets absolutely crushed. And that will be compounded if your OS has been installed for a while and you're bad about defragging and cleaning.

Yeah. I follow a thread on 2+2 for SNG grinders and there are big concerns about Multitabling cake. If so it will crush my hourly rate. Might need to shift gears
