So, just got back from Missouri. I did stop by Harrah's North Kansas City to check out the action. I was shocked when I saw only 2 1-2NL games going. I went to the cage to register for the tournament and buy chips for the game. I was seated immediately in seat 1. I forgot it was the knee-banging seat, so I got the 3 seat as soon as it opened. As far as the poker goes, it was uneventful for the most part. I folded the first orbit due to bad cards and that seemed to establish a tight image, enabling me to steal pots PF or on the flop with a simple bet or raise. I had right around my original $200 buy-in when the following occurred: I was UTG and saw my first pocket pair, 33. Made my standard raise to $10. Got a couple of callers including V who was UTG+2. Flop was the excellent Q-A-3r. I checked, V bet $20, I called. Turn was a seemingly safe 2, but it was a second spade. I checked, and V cut out $45 and bet it. I counted my remaining chips ($166 total) and figured I wasn't folding, so let's just get it in now. I shoved and V shrug-called. I revealed my set and he turned over A2. I love being a 95% favorite. I hate it when the river is an Ace. Because it was. I just sat there stunned for a couple of seconds, went back to the cage to unregister from the tournament, and left for home. It's this kind of s#!t that needs to stop, NOW. I am frankly sick and tired of being variance's bitch.

Anyway, the Meskwaki MSPT Main Event qualifier that I have an entry for is Thursday. Should I qualify, the ME is Saturday and Sunday. Maybe my #rungood will show up for it. Would be nice.

It did not go well. But I heard you cashed in Event #1 Scott, so congrats! I will not be joining you, sadly. I really wish I could. I remembered my current streak of #runbad started at the 2010-11 WSOP Circuit event at the Horseshoe in August 2010. I went 0-for-3 in tournaments and lost every cash game session. Lost about a third of my then-current bankroll. I want redemption. But alas, it won't happen.

Anyway, here's the recap of tonight's tournament. It was a $250 qualifier, 20% gets seats to the $1100 Main Event. You start with t10,000 chips, and there is an additional t2000 available for $10 as a dealer appreciation. Blinds start at 100/100 with 30 minute levels. I was typically card-dead, but got a decent pot when I 4-bet all-in with KK and got folds. I won two more pots before the first break with flop c-bets. I got to the first break with t19,100, a little above average. A new player joined after, and immediately went all in with his 2bbs. I was in the SB and called, as did the BB. I had K8 and flopped an 8, prepared to check it down. But on a 2 diamond board, the BB shoves for what would have been near 40% of my stack. I folded, commenting "you must have hit that hard." Uh, nope! Just tiny flush draw (he had 3d5d or the like). He didn't hit and the 2bb guy won with Ace high. Well, later on, in the 500/1000/100 level, I open it to t2500 with JT sooooted and the SB guy from earlier flats. We go heads-up to a flop of 3-3-3. I check, he checks. Turn is a Ten. I bet out and he shoves. I'm in the whole can't-fold spot (big hand, chips in the pot, etc.) so I call. He has AA. Well-played, sir. That pretty much cripples me. I shove once with what I can't remember and double up but I'm still short- about 8bbs. A little while later, an EP makes it t5000 at the 800/1600/100 level. I look down at AsJs and shove for t9100. EP makes the easy call with AdKd. The flop is an interesting KsJcXs. Two pulls at a Jack or a spade but I brick out. I bust in about ~55th of 141, 27 spots away from the seats. Oh, well.

I honestly don't know when my next poker session will be. I'm going to work a bunch and save up for my Vegas trip, which is in 11 weeks. Shooting for a $2K bankroll. Hopefully I'll run better in Vegas in June.

I guess I should update this once in a while. Still working two jobs and not playing much poker. Looks like my next poker will be May 9th, when I will play the Wednesday night tournament at Prairie Meadows. I need to find time for a cash session between then and Vegas.

Speaking of which, if you haven't seen my other thousand posts, I've moved my trip back to June 21-26 so I can attend AVP XVI. As CRM said on twitter, I must be a degen. :D

I guess I didn't put this on here, but I've been shopping for a handgun for a few months now. As I'm not allowed to carry on either job, I could get a full-frame gun, one that fit my hand much better than a compact would. I had it narrowed down to a 9mm Beretta 92A1, their latest evolution of the 92-series range. Went shopping around, only to find it mostly unavailable or, if available, overpriced. Finally, a local dealer said he could get it, so I put down a deposit and waited for it to come in. Well, instead what he was able to find was a Beretta M9A1, similar but different in the fact that it was built on the legacy 92fs frame rather than all the improvements given to the 92A1. Since it looked like I would never get a 92A1, I went ahead and took it. I am happy with it- it looks and feels awesome- but part of me wishes I would have held out for the 92A1. The best part of accepting the M9A1 is now I have a brand new pistol to go out and shoot. Looking to go do that this week. I plan on becoming a crack shot. ;)

I took a cursory look at Gunbroker and didn't see anything I liked. When you add shipping and FFL transfer fees it can sometimes be more than retail. If I would have found one at around $100 less than retail I would have jumped on it.

Today was awesome! Took a day off work to play poker at Prairie Meadows, intending to play cash to get a line pass for an early tournament entry. I have been reading Zachery Elwood's book, "Reading Poker Tells" in preparation. Got there to find the BBJ was at $26K because it had been hit several times lately. This kind of depressed the number of people in there. I got seated immediately and bought in for $200. Nothing notable happened in the first 30 minutes, consequently I was only up about $20. Then, I lost a few pots by getting outkicked, dwindling my stack to $66. A lady then sat down to my immediate right. I started going all-in pre-flop, first time with KQs, got no callers, but I did it in the very next hand with AA and the lady called with TT. I doubled up. Won a couple more pots off of her to completely endear myself to her, bringing myself to even. I played a couple of hands bad after that to end the cash session -$60, not bad considering how far down I was.

The next event was the tournament. It's only a $30 buy-in for t2000, but the levels are 20 minutes and the structure is at least better in the early levels than other low buy-in tourneys. After the first hour, I had only t2300 because the loose-passive players were hitting. Thankfully, I got better cards in the next 3 levels. I know I had AA twice, once it won the blinds pre-flop, and another time it held in a 3-way all-in to bust two people. I had an above-average t10,500 at the second break, and we were already hand-for-hand with 13 left, 10 paying. Since there were only 59 entrants, 10th and 9th paid $31 and 8th and 7th paid $44. First was $516. I got to work punishing the bubble and added about t5 or 6K before the final table, then when we got there, put pressure on the shorties, busting 4 of the first 6 and chipping to about t30K. The final four of us all had about that amount, so the action slowed quite a bit. Finally, I busted a guy by making a hero call with third pair and a tiny flush draw against his Ace-high and held. My heads-up opponent busted the 3rd-place finisher, and we went into it with near even chip stacks. I kind of dominated, winning with timely raises to take pots away. Finally, when I had about a t90K to t28K advantage, he open-shoved at the t3K/6K level, I looked down at AA for the third time and insta-called. He turned an OESD but the river blanked and I won the tournament. This is my first outright win, one that wasn't chopped, where we played to the end. I really do feel I'm playing at my peak- just in time for my Vegas trip in 6 weeks. Excited! br$1300
