Good for you on the job front Talon. Being available for shifts, especially last minute, along with your skills running different jobs has certainly opened some eyes.

Well deserved for a hard worker.

Peace.

Just a minor update as my wonderful one day off from both jobs is just starting. Just got home from a great night at GVR, along with a wonderful mix game on Sunday night at TI with many AVPers. More details on that in a full post in the next day or so. Meanwhile, have a few errands to take care of in the am on Tuesday and then I'm planning on giving the Aria tournament another try. I'll be free rolling on this one after a few quick sessions in cash at TI over the pat few days netted me a nice profit. Updates tomorrow from the tournament on my Facebook and Twitter.

So my one day off from working at both places and what do I end up doing? Basically playing a variety of poker over the span of 12 hours. Glad I got it out of my system at least and have to say I had a great time. One of our TI favorite players since the place opened came into town and after a long weekend of doing both jobs we agreed to try and meet up on my day off at TI. I started the day heading to the afternoon tournament at the Aria. That turned out to be one of the fastest bustouts, and it was my own fault not knowing how a person played (she had hardly played any hands after the first 45 minutes). I started out somewhat quietly and card dead, fine for me in the first hour; knowing that my continuous folds would allow me to start stealing later in the tournament after everyone establishes a read on me. Was sitting on about 7900 chips and was UTG +2. The blinds were only at 50-100 and the player I mentioned before had limped UTG. I look at pocket Jacks and make it 400 to go. Everyone folds but her. The flop comes out all low, rainbow. She checks, and I bet out 1100, happy to just take it there before her big cards hit. She thinks for a moment and then calls. Still have no read on her, maybe a pocket pair? The turn brought out another low card, a possible straight if you held a 7, no flush draws. She checks, and I bet out 3300. She again tanks and makes the call. She tanked long enough that I considered if she was slow playing a flopped set (or that straight), but decided she would of re-raised me on the flop or the turn if that was the case. The river brought a King. She checked and I decide that a quick all-in would show her strength. She again tanked and then calls, showing A-K off suit. Really? Guess she knew it was coming…she said she was debating on if I had a 7 or not…lol..there was more than just a 7 that could beat your catch on the river. So I'm out in less than a hour. Text my visiting TI buddy, he is about to sit down at TI's 2pm so I head over there to play. Still somewhat steaming I bust out in less than a hour and decide to chill out at the cash game with the remaining $200 I had on me. Good move for me, as I got hit hard by the deck and built my buying up to $500. So, ahead for the day and time to play the 7pm tournament at TI, buy-in twice and bust out both times. I'm finding I have no problem playing my style in tournaments and sticking with them, but when I vary back and forth between cash and tourneys sometimes I make some poor decisions. Glad for the cash hit as I was still up for the day. My buddy busts out and calls it a night, heading to his room (he partied way too much the night before so he had no energy to hang out with me for the night). Got back into the cash game at TI and played till 1am, losing some of my profit but ended up for the entire day a whopping $10 up. I know, I should of headed home, but for me it was a very relaxing day to veg at the poker table. Wish of course I would of had more to take home but I was smart enough to put my starter money in one part of my wallet and not touch it once I was ahead.

After last weekends stressful 3 days in a row of working at both jobs, I wisely traded away two of my shifts this week at TI. So this weekend I will only have one "double" night. Next week I'll also be covering one of the swing shifts floor position at GVR when they take a few days off. A bit different running the room during a swing shift than when I have been running it during the graveyard shift, looking forward to the challenge. Also can't forget next Sunday (April 1st) is the AVP meet n greet, followed by the NL/NLO tournament. Glad it doesn't start till the afternoon, should be able to catch enough ZZZ's before I head to it.

Before I started playing much NL, that AK lady would have shocked me. I figured you'd only see something like that the 2/4 limit game I was playing. But now I've seen bonehead moves like this over and over again, both in NL cash games and tournaments. All you can do is shake your head. And you said she had hardly played a hand until then? Wow. I guess that was the first good starting hand she had and she was going to play it no matter what. You really like playing against fish like that, until they suck out on you. Oh well, looks like you still had a lot of poker for your money that day, so that's nice.

What days next week will you be swing mgr at GVR? Current plan is for me be in town all next week so I'd probably swing by then. Maybe I'll even have the guts to try some NL against the locals!

I'll be running the room at GVR on Thursday night...we serve pizza to the players around 7 or 8 pm that night so make sure you are there prior to be able to grab a slice!

Been a mild work week, glad I traded a few nights off at TI so I didn't overload myself. I'm doing the same thing this coming week so that while I only have one full day off from both jobs I don't have any shifts going back to back. Just saw that next week I'll be flooring overnights for 4 to 5 nights in a row at GVR, great money and all but will have to give away all my shifts at TI. I'll also have to go pickup another sport coat, as I only have 2 and you need to wear a tie and suit/sport coat when running the room at GVR.

Played some cash last night at TI prior to my late dealing shift. Wide range of players to either take advantage of their lack of skills or a few small tells. Wish I had more time to play that night, as my $200 buyin went as high as $360 but went down to $150 when I had a 3 way all-in scenario on the flop, I was holding the nut flush draw vs. an overpair and the big blind who flopped bottom 2 pair. It would of been a sweet win but I missed. Came back a little to cash out with only a $20 loss.

TI also came out with the news of the $10K tournament for April. Details will be coming on the TI page I'm sure, but basically this is to hopefully have some of the old 10 hour a week grinders come back and play during April. If you play as little as 20 hours in the month you are qualified to play, with more chips to those with more hours (up to 100 hours). The top 30 get paid but I have a feeling there will be a chop once they hit the final table. Been thinking about qualifying myself for it…had the chance to get 10 hours last week but never made it back after my 7.8 hour session on Tuesday.

Had a couple of minor dates with potential girlfriends but nothing too fruitful to talk about. Supposed to meet another tomorrow night, pretty much writing it off and not worrying about it for now. There are a few others on my mind to ask out but have either not had the nerve or the chance to ask them.

I'm also on the debate of picking up an used motorcycle for the upcoming summer. My Jeep Cherokee gets about 18 miles to the gallon and is great to have, but having a bike to run up to work would save me a few bucks. While I have an old aversion to any big bike (bad wreck from many years ago), I'm open to having a smaller bike, nothing too fancy but not as small as a moped either. Going to explore my options a bit and see what I can find.

My favorite concert that I saw a few months ago, Motley Crue, just announced a tour with another favorite band of mine, Kiss. The combination of these two would be incredible, as both put on a show when they play. Tickets went on sale last week and I bought mine on day one, actually stepping up and getting a VIP package, not the ultimate package that they offered where you meet the bands backstage and stuff, but enough perks to make it worthwhile. Decided I wanted my best friend, Mike, to fly out for this one, so I sent him the invite. We go back over 30 years now and even if we don't talk for months we still remain close to this day.

Currently debating on either playing the Aria on Tuesday afternoon or grinding cash at TI. Will decide by the morning and if it is the tournament you'll see updates on Twitter and Facebook.

Pass on the motorcycle Troy. I don't really do personal injury law but I have had 4 awful motorcycle accident cases in the past 2 years. Risk your money on the felt, not your life on a bike pal.

used KLR 650. about 60 mpg, fast, light and will go up a flight of stairs if you need to. Perfect for commuting, city streets, interstates or dirt road. Rode one to San Francisco and back with no issues.

As a motorcycle rider/ex-racer, I take exception to that. Motorcycles are WAY safer than cars. It's (mostly) the drivers in the cars who are the problem as well as the idiots who ride around without the proper safety gear. But I digress.

I'd agree with Jim. Having a multi-purpose bike is ultimate because it can be a tool and a toy. My husband has a Suzuki DRZ400 that he rides to/from work and goes trail riding with it on weekends. But I also would recommend an old Japanese standard for something cheap and reliable. My 1979 Honda CB650 gets about 50mpg.
